So my idea for this was that shulkers are like weird little bugs from then end, and since they don't have any natural armor, they scavenge loose purpur bricks and stick them together with a slimy substance they secrete to make shells. They also put a lot of that same slimy substance on the bottom of their purpur shell so they can stick to walls and ceilings. Maybe not the most original concept, but I like the way it turned out.
