Cube World is a Minecraft mod which adds a new world type made up of floating glass cubes containing every single biome. Dungeons, blazes, villagers, and essentially every Minecraft feature are all wrapped up safely within nice cubical packages. Looking for a way to spice up any new Minecraft playthrough? You're in the right place.
FAQ
- You always spawn in a grassy cube.
- All ores spawn equally at all levels
- Plate glass can be crafted from normal glass by putting 4 in a square. The same can be done in reverse.
- All dimensions are... cubicized. (shush yes that's a word!)
- This was created before the Cube World game was released
INSTALLATION
1. Install Minecraft Forge, if you have not already (Forge Installation, for those who haven't).
2. Open the folder: %appdata%/.minecraft/mods/1.12.2 in Windows Explorer.
3. Move the file you downloaded into the folder you just opened.
4. Select the "Forge" profile and start Minecraft.
5. Create a new world, making sure to switch the world type to "Cube World." The world can be configured with the 'Configure' button as desired.
TECHNICAL
- The current latest version is V4.4AF for Minecraft 1.12.X. (Forge V.14.23.0.2491)
- Lag while generating a new world or moving quickly in the overworld is common, waiting for the world to load out completely or lowering render distance will fix this.
- A different type of glass called 'Plate Glass,' is used in the cubes. This allows you to spawn inside of cubes rather than on top, and prevents the destruction of the glass by the ender dragon.
SERVER SETUP
1. First, install a MinecraftForge server if you have not already. (Instructions here)
2. If there is no folder named "mods" in the directory that you installed the server, create that folder.
3. Place the file you downloaded into the mods folder.
4. Either change the level-type value in server.properties to cubeworld OR replace the multiplayer map with a cube world map from singleplayer.
5. Optionally, the generator-options value in server.properties can be set to configure the world as with the 'Configuration' button. The options are represented by a single piece of text with no spaces: If it contains 'V' vanilla glass will be used. 'G1' means that bedrock ground will be used, and 'G2' means that a water ground will be used. 'D040' means that the cube spawn rate is set to 40% (Percentage must be a 3-digit integer). If an option is not specified then the default value is used. An example would be generator-options=VD020 for a void-ground vanilla-glass map with 20% cube spawn rate.

It's lagging the crap out of my game. Especially on making a server, my frames go down to 11 throughout the whole thing :(

I will try to test again tonight. Maybe I forgot something important
I'd make it able to use modded ores, as of right now I can't use this in the creation of my mod pack because it would be missing vital ores required to make items.

Ah. It appears Forge changed the way that ore generation is handled at some point. I've updated it and will release a patched version later today -- as always though it might still not work with some mod generators depending on how they work, and most modded ores will still only spawn in the bottom 50-or-so blocks of the world as if it were a normal overworld map.
Honestly this is a great mod! If you ever want me to test pre-releases find me on discord - curse and github! I am going to be toying with this mod and I also hope that you release a 1.13 and 1.14 when they come out!

Been playing this mod for quite a while now and my main goal was to go to the end and find the elytra, which would make going from cube to cube much easier.
Except from the fact that I spawned in mid-air (or the dragon immediately kicked me out) the end is not really playable. You can't protect yourself from dragon good enough and still have to go from cube to cube and if you use gamemode 1, kill the dragon and go to the end dimension, it's not loading.
Just a flying island with the portal back, the rest of the map is empty.
Quite disappointing, although I'm not sure how it would be possible to fit this dimension in cubes.

The mod itself still is fun and creates a new "feeling" playing survival.

Hey! I recently installed this mod and now Minecraft starts, but don't let me play, because of the mod wants another version or somethink like that.

Hello some friends of mine have started using your mod lately and while it is paired with other mods it is quite laggy and doesn't allow us to break blocks. We also discovered that we cannot go into the end nor the nether unless we are in creative mode. We are running 1.11.2, is this a known issue?

This is typical TPS / Block lag. Here is what Mojang's bug tracker has to say about it:

"Block lag" is not a bug, it is a symptom of one of myriad causes. There are multiple things you can try:
• Turn down your render distance (to 8 or lower)
• Turn VBOs "on" in video settings
• Make sure you don't have any possibly lag causing things, like too many entites
• Update your graphics card drivers
• Give Minecraft more RAM

(In addition, with this mod a world generated with a lower cube density will tend to lag less)

This mod does make it somewhat worse, as Minecraft's lighting engine has a hard time dealing with the large shadows created by the cubes, but there's nothing that I can change about that. Any other mods you're running could also be affecting this as well, but not knowing them means that I cannot help there.

I like the mod but I'm having some issues when I go to load it; it says that there is a duplicate i tried to delete it and reinstall it. When i do that I have the same issue please help

No, it is a world type and will not affect any worlds that do not have it set as the world type.

That is to say ? If this is a world that at first did not use cubeworld generation, no.
By cons, if it's a cubeworld world and you spent vanilla (for a server), chunks no generated (you have not discovered) are chunks vanilla.

I get this error when I want to do a server with your mod, however, I use the version of forge you recommended to 1.10.2 : 12.18.1.2045 I don't use other mod. Solo by against, it works fine.

This was a nasty server-only crash bug caused by the new customization options in the last version. Using the latest version of the mod will fix this.

Before I download, I would like to ask one question: Does the 1.7.10 version of this mod generate the ores from a mod like thermal expansion? The reason i am asking is because i would like to set up a 1.7.10 modpack and don't want to load up a world only to have it not have those ores. Thanks in advance.

It probably won't work, as the 1.7.x versions did not have hooks to the Forge ore generation API. This entirely depends on how Thermal Expansion works, though. I tested it earlier and didn't see any Thermal Expansion ores generate.

This error usually means that the mod file was in some way corrupted. Re-downloading the mod should fix this.

The game keeps crashing!! I installed the right forge and im using the 1.10 version of the mod but it still crashes!! Please help me, I want to play this mod real bad :(

The error 'FML has discovered extracted jar files in the mods directory.' indicates that there are improperly installed mods in the mods/1.10.2 directory. Forge mods are installed by copying the downloaded zip file into the mods/1.10.2 directory directly, without unzipping or renaming them. Delete any files that are not downloaded .zip mods in the mods directory, and then re-download the mod zip, copying the zip directly into the mods/1.10.2 directory.
This is pretty cool m'man.
Would it be possible to make this as just a world with maybe some different random variations similar to how Skyblock is? It would be great to have on a vanilla survival server.

It would be nice, but Forge is now required because a separate type of glass is needed to prevent the absolute destruction of the end by the ender dragon. I might add in an option to switch back to normal glass, but I haven't gotten around to doing that yet.
If you really want this, you could use something like WorldEdit to replace all of the 'Plate Glass' with normal glass after generating out a portion of the world, placing a border around it to prevent the normal terrain from continuing to generate.
Alternatively, you could just run a Forge server with the mod, as this is fully supported.

A suggestion for to do, the mod doesn't work on mac. I'm on a macbook pro, and I know I installed it right. I even deleted my .minecraft folder and completely redid every step. The problem has something to do with forge detecting duplicate files in the system. I've been modding minecraft for at least 4 years now, so it must be a problem with mac.

The only possible platform-specific code in the whole mod is some conversion code that was used to convert V3.X worlds to V4.X due to new Forge restrictions. If there is a crash occurring please post a crash log, and if not I'm going to need a more specific description of the problem and possibly output logs because of my lack of any Macintosh machines.

The latest zip file for V4.0BF is named "CubeWorldV4.0BF (Minecraft V1.8.8).zip", but I can only get it to run in 1.8, not 1.8.8.  It runs, but the lag is pretty harsh, even when I reduce the chunk distance below 8.  Is there a way to install using the 1.8.8 or 1.8.9 Forge?

Following the installation instructions in the Mod Details >> Installation while using Forge 1.8.8 won't display the Cube World mod in the Mods list.  When I place the V4.0BF zip file in the "mods" directory without the "1.8" subdirectory, the game throws an error and says the mod is not compatible with 1.8.8.  When I move the V4.0BF zip file to a subdirectory called "1.8.8", I get the same error.  So I'm only able to get the mod to run using Forge 1.8 (forge-1.8-11.14.4.1563).  Since the update logs for V4.0BF say it is confirmed working in 1.8.8, can you update the installation instructions for that version of Forge?  Thanks so much!!!

1.8.8 does not work due to some minor incompatibilities within Forge. Use 1.8.7 or earlier, as those versions are functionally identical.
I really love those small cubes of glowstone in the nether, so cute

I'm making a minecraft series in 1.7.10 focusing on this particular mod, however there are plenty other mods that seem to now work with it like certain biomes and structures can't spawn, is there a way to add in modded biomes in this mod?
Also, have there any mods that are notorious for not interacting well with cubeworld, because i can't seem to load in any new areas on my map

Unfortunately, there is no way to add in modded biomes to this mod at the moment without actually modiftying the mod's code. That being said, most mods that do not add custom world features should work fine, but any mod that does add custom biomes or world structures will likely not work simply because this is an entirely newly-written world generator that completely replaces the stock world generation in worlds it is enabled in. The next release, however, should be able to spawn in the ores from other mods properly, but other world generation features will still likely not work properly.

hey guys. i just installed the mod and it loads correctly but i am unable to mine anything. it destroys the block and then the block reapears without giving me any materials. anyone know how i can fix that?

That's not a problem with the mod; it just means you're lagging a lot. I would suggest turning down your graphics settings. :)
I really love this mod! However, I find that diamonds are too easily attainable. Could you make them more rare?

Minor problem with villager house design...

I tested out the map, and checked inside the new villager house whilst flying around in creative mode. There were 4 villagers inside the small house, I eventually bridged the gap and only found one villager inside.

I was watching the villagers, as I bridged about the 150 block gap to them. Noticing one of them standing on the edge of the doorway, looking out. When I got there, all the doors were open, and there was only one villager.

Theory...    The villagers pushed each other out of the open doorways, until there was only one villager left and 4 open doors.

Solution... The villagers are idiots, remove the doors and seal them in.


Apart from the psychotic villager, killing all his friends... the cube world is working great...

Doors are required for Villages to form, so they are a necessary part of the villages. Cubes spawn with 3 villagers + all doors closed, and I've known since 3.x that they push each other out, but I left them in because it adds the challenge of getting to villager cubes quickly and because it is necessary for the villagers. If you're stuck with only 1 villager, you can either find another cube and form a village from the remaining villagers or cure a zombie villager and re-form the village with that.

Yeah! I usually cure zombie villagers on the survival maps that I play, as they usually have no villagers. So 1 villager saved, is one less golden apple to make...

Great map anyway, despite the lemming-like villagers...

How long is it supposed to take for the terrain to load? I left it going for quite a while and nothing happened. Mod looks great, though! Also, I'm using 1.8

It can take some time, but unless you're on the slowest of computers should never take over ~2 minutes. It's entirely possible you have a mod conflict, or triggered an extremely rare bug in 4.0AF where certain worlds would get stuck trying to find a spawn when none can be found (creating a new world or updating the mod will fix that).

Hostile Mobs won't appear...

-Tried Normal and Hard
-Tried resetting with Peaceful then back onto Normal
-Tried removing all mods, then starting new cube world
-I have latest Forge
-Tried going into spectator and creative modes, and flying around at night. Zero Hostile mobs...

Love the mod, but have some update recommendations...

1. Space out the Cubes more ( 200 blocks minimum ), as there are cubes everywhere around me. This would also help with weaker P.C.'s...
2. Slightly less ores, as you need a reason to leave your cube...
3. Add some Rare, large cubes. For Villages, Temples, etc... But have almost no resources, to stop people just staying in one cube, forcing them to leave... A cube to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there. Maybe made out of nothing but stone, to prevent animal spawns, and no ores, or plants...
4. Ores in certain cubes only, such as gold and diamonds in the lava filled cubes only. To make people travel, and explore more...

- Yeah, I also found the bug with spawning -- it's corrected in 4.0BF and was caused by 2 lines of code I overlooked >.>.
 - As far as spacing out cubes more, I plan on eventually adding that as an option, but the problem is that I haven't the time to code in an options menu yet, and until then the denser the cubes the better, as most people get bored with having to build masssive bridges to reach anything.
 - Ores are another issue I've dealt with -- The thing is that I've had to rewrite the whole mod for 4.0, and as such all of the ore spawning code was wildly unbalanced. Ore has always been biased towards spawning more commonly in ore/cave cubes, but was evidently not balanced properly.
 - Also, as far as village cubes, they existed in 3.0 onwards, but I had to remove them from 4.0 to get it finished in a reasonable amount of time. They've been re-added in the latest version.

Mod working 100% now, checked it out with spectator mode. Got hostile mobs, and a villager house, even found a dungeon.
  Had to knock my render distance down to 8, as I was getting lag. Forever chopping the same tree down, but setting the render distance to 8 fixed it...

Started a new game to reset the chunks, to spawn in new villager house...

This is a good substitue for Biospheres :3 Someone did port it, but it isn't as mod friendly as this or as stable as this.

So, do all new worlds generate in cube fashion, or is it simply a world option? Also, does this mod affect already generated regular worlds? Also, is it compatable with forge 11.14.3.1450?
