ATTENTION: This mod is no longer being developed, and it's maintained (bugs and crash fixes) until August/September of 2021.

Emoticons is a cosmetic Minecraft mod which adds custom player animations (which can be disabled, see FAQ) and emote system. There are 62 emotes (you can also animate your own, see FAQ) which can be triggered by the player using keybinds which come with the mod.

Check out this playlist for showcase of the mod.

Install
Install Minecraft Forge, download the latest stable version of jar file for available Minecraft version. Also install following mods: McLib. Put it in minecraft's mods folder, and launch the game.

After that, Emoticons mod should be installed and will appear in Minecraft's mods menu. If Emoticons didn't appear in the mods menu, then something went wrong.

FAQ
Q: I don't like Emoticons' animations, but emotes are very cool. Can I disable them?
A: You can disable them in McLib's dashboard (Ctrl + 0, check for conflicting keybinds in Options - Controls, if it doesn't work) by enabling Disable non-emote animations toggle option.

Q: Will you downgrade/upgrade mod to other version of Minecraft?
A: No. It's gonna stay 1.12.2 (and 1.8.9) only.

Q: I'm using 1.8.9 version and it says something about "mclib"?
A: You need to install McLib for 1.8.9 so it would work.

Q: I'm playing with my friends on the server, and why I can't see them emote, or they can't see me emote?
A: In order to see other people emote, the server must also install the mod. No mod on the server, no people emoting.

Q: Can you add support with mod X?
A: No, I won't add support with any other mods.

Q: Can I add custom emotes myself?
A: Yes, watch this tutorial video! Those are not synchronized across clients though. You'll have to manually send these emote files to other people.

Q: I've seen emotes exactly like yours in an X client. Do you know about it?
A: Most likely I know about this, as I gave permission to use the mod's source in their client. The known clients to me are Badlion and Lunar.

Q: Can you add custom music to emotes?
A: No, because I have no time/skill to make cool tunes for every emote, and if I use the original audio that would be illegal. However, you can replace the sounds in Emoticons' jar. Keep in mind that these sounds are going to loop.

12 Update Logs

Emoticons 1.0 : by McHorse 07/03/2021 10:51:08 amJul 3rd, 2021

This update adds more emotes, morph emote system for props (requires Metamorph), a couple of tweaks, and handful of bug fixes.

Compatible with McLib 2.3 and optionally with Blockbuster 2.3 and Metamorph 1.2.7. It doesn't mean that future versions of McLib, Blockbuster and Metamorph would be incompatible, but older versions are most likely incompatible.
 • Added copy/paste context menu to pose editor (suggested by Tribble)
 • Added support for float (not only integer) x value keyframes
 • Added Tada!, Smug Dance, Nope and Ragdoll #3 emotes
 • Added morph emote system
 • Added 6 misc bones for emotes
 • Changed Disable non-emote animations option server side and syncable (suggested by SwilaPlasmark)
 • Fixed emotes not working through Blockbuster's sequencer morph
 • Fixed crash with emote action NPE (reported by Kamesuta)
 • Fixed wrong matrix transformation order, aka scaling skewing rotation (reported by zoombie)
 • Fixed user animation files not being updated instantly (requires log out and log in)
 • Fixed armor meshes being overridden in case user provided a custom mesh config (reported by Centryfuga)
 • Fixed 3D emoticons morphs having lines on the outer layer (reported by Chryfi)

Why Is Everyone Simping For 1.12?

No one simping for it. It's just that a lot of people created their mods for 1.12.2 at first, and developed them so much, but then Mojang and Forge changed drastically new versions, and so the modders don't want to spend months of their lives just so the mod was available for newer versions.
