The game is too easy? No problem. This mod adds several new difficulty levels to Minecraft. After peaceful, easy, normal hard, there is now (in order) expert, nightmare, fiendish, cataclysmic, pandemonium, unutterable and insurmountable. I do not recommend going straight to insurmountable difficulty. I picked these names for a reason. The old pandemonium difficulty from version 0.1 is a cakewalk compared to insurmountable. And that is already really really hard.

Here is what happens:

Expert:
-Mob damage factor 1.5
-Arrows have a 1% chance to poison the player
-Mobs have a 20% larger following range
-Skeletons have a 60% larger following range
-Zombies have a 10% chance to spawn with an iron shovel or sword
-Skeleton arrows are more accurate and fly 50% faster

Nightmare:
-Mob damage factor 2
-Arrows have a 2% chance to poison the player
-Mobs have a 40% larger following range
-Skeletons have a 120% larger following range
-Zombies have a 15% chance to spawn with an iron shovel/sword or a diamond sword
-Mobs do not despawn that easily
-Mobs are 5% faster
-Spiders can trap players in cobwebs if they are close

Fiendish:
-Mob damage factor 3.5
-Arrows have a 5% chance to poison the player
-Mobs have a 60% larger following range
-Skeletons have a 180% larger following range
-Zombies have a 20% chance to spawn with a weapon (including diamond axe now)
-Mobs are 10% faster
-Torches cannot be placed
-Placing lava might spawn a blaze
-Zombies break blocks
-Creepers spawn charged

Cataclysmic:
-Mob damage factor 5
-Arrows have a 10% chance to poison the player
-Mobs have a 80% larger following range
-Skeletons have a 240% larger following range
-Zombies have a 25% chance to spawn with a weapon
-Mobs are 15% faster
-Creepers can launch TNT at the player
-nights are longer
-the equipment of zombies and skeletons can have strong enchantments
-zombie pigmen are always pissed

Pandemonium:
-Mob damage factor 8
-Arrows have a 20% chance to poison the player
-Mobs have a 100% larger following range
-Skeletons have a 300% larger following range
-Zombies have a 30% chance to spawn with a weapon
-Mobs are 20% faster
-Creepers have an explosion strength of 8
-short days, nights stay forever until the player sleeps
-zombies can build
-3% chance for an enderman in the end or a zombie pigman in the nether to be replaced by a stray
-mobs sense players through walls in a range of 16 blocks

Unutterable:
-Mob damage factor 12
-Arrows have a 50% chance to poison the player
-Mobs have a 120% larger following range
-Skeletons have a 400% larger following range
-Zombies have a 45% chance to spawn with a weapon
-Mobs are 25% faster
-short day followed by eternal night
-zombies have a 12.5% chance of spawning more zombies when damaged by a player.
-sleeping is not possible
-zombies have a 5% chance to spawn with a lava bucket
-5% chance for an enderman in the end or a zombie pigman in the nether to be replaced by a stray
-mobs sense players through walls in a range of 32 blocks

Insurmountable:
-Mob damage factor 16
-Arrows have a 100% chance to poison the player
-Mobs have a 150% larger following range
-Skeletons have a 500% larger following range
-Zombies have a 60% chance to spawn with a weapon
-Mobs are 30% faster
-instant and eternal night
-zombies have a 25% chance of spawning more zombies when damaged by a player
-zombies have a 15% chance to spawn with a lava bucket
-1ß% chance for an enderman in the end or a zombie pigman in the nether to be replaced by a stray
-mobs sense players through walls in a range of 128 blocks

I have heard of a bunch of awesome ideas to add. One thing i really want to improve are zombie hordes. If you have some good ideas which buffs Zombies should get if they are in large groups, let me know.

My (rather long) list of suggestions:

Beds explode
Endermen multiply when looked in the eyes
Endermen run 3x as fast and teleport 4x as often and far when provoked
Withers are invincible to bows
Ender Dragon is invincible to bows
Every time you go to the end after beating the dragon, there is a 5% chance for a dragon to spawn
Every time you go to the nether after beating the wither, there is a 10% for a wither to spawn
Blazes explode when you are within 2 blocks of them
Snow golems melt instantly
Iron golems explode instantly
Each mob has a chance to spawn in a horde, meaning 3-7 extras will spawn
Creepers double when killed
Creepers can teleport
Skeletons have insane aimbot and can snipe you from 6 times as far away
Making contact with any bos mob will insta-kill you
Thunderstorms have a 75% higher chance to spawn
Rainstorms have a 100% higher chance to spawn
For higher difficulties, it will always be storming
Slimes can spawn up to 10 times as big a normal
Same for magma cubes
When wearing no armor, you have wither
A mob's health scales with its speed and damage, but in reverse (i.e. health= 25%, damage and extra speed 75%)
Endermen can (And will try their best to) steal chests, trapped chests, barrels, shulker boxes
Endermen can pick up passive mobs (lol)
When you die, all your items are destroyed
Every time you die, you lose a max heart
Every time you kill a boss, you gain a max heart
Withers can teleport to different dimensions
Random TNT falls from the sky
Ghasts can fire fireballs 3x as often
Blazes can shoot ghast fireballs
Ghasts move 3x as fast (They never really felt fast enough...)
Ender Dragons will now team with Withers
When you first go to the end, the Dragon will have 2 wither sidekicks
In the end endermen are automatically hostile unless fed a chorus fruit
Cows fly and bomb you (Good luck getting milk lol)
TNT will insti-kill any players nearby but HEAL mobs!
Every time you are hurt, the mob that hurt you gains the same amount of health they took from you
Mobs of the same type within 64 blocks of each other can teleport to one another
Creepers now throw TNT and literal LIGHTNING!
Creepers can throw one another if they are close enough!
Even if one mob hits another on accident, they won't fight
Hostile mobs can breed. They don't even need food. They just do. They have a 10 minute cooldown though for balancing purposes.
Pigs randomly place annoying and somewhat offensive signs.
Strays shoot wither arrows
Squid fly, teleport, and try to kill you (A lot more fun than before)
The chance of a mob dropping what it is holding is decreased by 50%, but the item will have 50% more durability
Totem of Undying applies NO effects to you
When shields are bashed, the cooldown is doubled
The cooldown of all items are doubled

I hope you like my list, this is about all I can think about. Please just consider adding at least some of this to your addon, as I spent SO long on it!

Thank you for all those ideas. A few of them (like creepers shooting TNT) are already in the mod. However i will likely consider a few more of those. But probably no such things as flying squids or random TNT falling from the sky. It does not really fit into the game. However i really like ideas like mobs not killing each other as this is a small but important change.

some more ideas for a 3rd edition:
creepers are invisible when you're looking at them, mobs can pick up all blocks and move them wherever they please, reduced chance of useful drops, mobs can spawn at any light level.

Not sure wether all mobs should move around blocks. However i worked around the light level thing by removing light sources like torches and daylight.
