This data pack causes slimes to drink milk from milk buckets dropped by the player, which causes the slime to increase in size. Fed slimes become persistent, and the slimes that spawn from them when they die are also persistent, which allows the player to farm slimes in a similar fashion to passive mobs.

New in Version 5: Magma Cubes can also be grown, but they prefer to drink Mushroom Stew.

By default slimes can grow to a maximum size of 3 (the largest size they naturally spawn as), and there is a 5 minute cooldown period after feeding them, during which they cannot grow again (the same time as breeding passive mobs). If you'd like to change that, you can find the configuration file at "data\slime_b\functions\config.mcfunction" within the zip file of the data pack.

More information about data packs and how to use them can be found on the official Minecraft Wiki.

I'm surprised that you didn't make magma cubes increase in size by consuming lava buckets

While it would make a lot of sense to use lava buckets from a thematic point of view, they're not renewable, and the farming that this data pack enables is intended to be renewable ;)
I get that. Lava isn't infinite. But it is really, really plentiful in the nether.

That is very true, but I imagine using mushroom stew to be better than lava for a number of reasons;
  • Flowing liquids are laggy, and 1 bucket of lava to grow one magma cube would result in a lot of draining the nether lava ocean, thus a lot of flowing liquids left in place

  • In a sky block map, lava might not be guaranteed in large quantities

  • Because of the 1:1 ratio of food to cube, I think its more practical to set up a farm with, say, a mooshroom and a slime pit, rather than having to truck lava from the ocean to your farm constantly.

can you make a "second version" where the slimes and magma cubes do not deal damage? or mabye you caould hold a certain item and they will not attack you?

Sorry, I wasn't able to alter the slimes and magma cubes to do no damage. You can still breed them from a distance though, for example, by keeping your pet slimes in a pit, they'll still drink the milk once it drops onto a block near them.

I'm not sure it can be done in a way that doesn't disrupt other gameplay, but I'll look into it for you. No promises.
