Agnus Dei Minecraft Map
This build is meant to represent human mortality and the divinity of Christ's sacrifice, symbolized by the skeleton holding the hourglass and the lamb with the flagpost. It was an entry in ShadowKingdom's Above the Clouds contest, where it received 7th place. The final leaderboard can be visited here. I really enjoyed working on this build, especially the texturing phase was a lot of fun. Here I tried to work with an imaginative light-source, making sure to highlight parts of the organics where light would catch the raised edges. There is also a gradient visible throughout the clouds, from darker blue near the base of the build to bright orange and yellow near the top. You can visit the build in person by logging on to ShadowKingdom and typing /build tp 954. Enjoy, and please leave some feedback!

Christian Iconography
In Christian iconography, the lamb is a symbol for Christ. It is often depicted holding a white flag with a red cross, as seen in the images below. It may also be depicted as bleeding into a chalice from the heart. These all refer to the sacrifice of Christ at the cross, where it is said that he took away the sins of mankind by means of his own suffering and eventual death. The story of the crucifixion plays a central role in Christianity, for it also completes the character of Christ as the pinnacle of selflessness, pity, compassion and love. Christ is the ultimately beautiful, the moral perfection, the essence of divinity - made into flesh and blood. I find therefore the symbol of the lamb to be a very powerful one. One recalls a certain infamous passage from the Gospel of John, where John the Baptist speaks of Christ:

"Ecce Agnus Dei,
Qui tollis peccata mundi."

"Behold, the Lamb of God,
He who taketh away the sins of the world."

Agnus Dei: here depicted on a book with seven seals, a reference to a passage in the book of Revelation.

The famous lines from the Gospel of John are here represented on a scroll: "Ecce Agnus Dei".

Human
Frailty
It was especially during the period when the Black Death spread through the great cities of Europe that artists became obsessed with the personification and depiction of death as a skeleton or old and decayed body. There are countless works of art where we can see skeletons guiding the rich and the poor, the young and the old, and the wise and the foolish to their graves. The art that remains from this period is grim and dark, yet it serves as a solemn reminder of our own fragility. In any case, in this build, human mortality has been depicted as a polar opposite of the divinity and transcendence of Christ. We may strive to reach moral perfection, yet we are continuously hindered by our human instincts and the fear of death. The painting below by Salvator Rosa has served as a great source of inspiration for this build.

"Human Frailty" by Salvator Rosa. Salvator Rosa lost his sister, his sister's husband and their five children to the Black Plague. In the painting, the child signs a contract that says: 'Conception is a sin, Birth is pain, Life is toil, Death a necessity.'

“This time heaven has struck me in such a way that shows me that all human remedies are useless and the least pain I feel is when I tell you that I weep as I write.”
-Salvator Rosa

I have this time not included a download for the build. If there is a high request for it I might do so in the future.
