BACKGROUND/ CONTEXTE
On the UK, USA, France, and former commonwealth nations, every 11th of November, veteran's day, armistice day, and remembrance day are celebrated, but why? The reason of this goes back 102 years-on a truly depressing time known as world war 1 or the great war . on the western front, Germany is on the brink of collapse and revolution, people are rioting, mutinies occur in all branches of military, when defeat draws in, Kaiser Wilhelm II abdicates and flees to the Netherlands. the remaining government ministers decide to surrender and stop the war. Soon, negotiations start between Imperial Germany and the allies, the allies demand harsh repatriations to Germany, and Germany is forced to accept the terms, on 5:45 a.m., French time, the armistice was signed between the allies and Germany, the ceasefire was to enroll at 11:00 a.m., Paris time. unfortunately, 2,738 men still died on that day, with a very unfortunate few who became the final deaths of the war. at 11:00 a.m., the war ended, everyone in the battlefield cheered, paraded, and celebrated, some however, even German troops, who knew they had lost. looked back at the past 4 years of brutal tench warfare, loosing their friends and sometimes relatives due to combat. The treaty soon came into affect, and created a much more destructive conflict. But that is a story for another time...
