The China Zun is to be Beijing's tallest building, at 528m (1732 ft.) with 108 floors, it will surpass the China World Trade Centre 3 tower as the tallest building in the city by 190m , and will become the second tallest in China. Designed by award-winning firm Kohn Pedersen Fox, who has designed other notable tall buildings in China, like the Shanghai World Financial Centre and the International Commerce Centre in Hong Kong, the tower's shape was derived from the likeness of the ancient Chinese wine vessel of the same name, which has a shape similar to a vase, where it's edges flared out at both the bottom (for stability) and the top (to facilitate pouring). The tower tries to imitate this, and thus, it has its iconic, yet unorthodox profile. The structure itself relies on both a central core and a stiff diagrid shell on the exterior. This will help reduce motion in the building and due to the nature of the diagrid braces, will help reduce the amount of material used in a building of this scale. This tower should be completed in 2018
My interpretation of this tower is not precisely accurate, partially due to me taking design liberties and partially due to a limited amount of images of this project. Where i took my liberties was in the rationalization of the structure throughout the tower, where i created a quartz block structural shell (with glass inlaid), and used carpet to create a screening facade. I also created an atrium through the entire tower's 45 floors, as this was a design element in a tower that previously resided on this spot (removed because
i was not satisfied with its design. You can see it in earlier renders of the city, in the north quarter, if you are curious).
Dimensions: 30 x 29 x 188 (2 blocks below ground to account for the pool floors)
