The Dampfschiff Welfen was the first liner of the german Kaiserliche Dampfschiffgesellschaft (KDG) and their Atlas Linie.
She was finished 1888, only a few weeks after the dead of Kaiser Wilhelm I. of Germany, who founded the KDG 2 years before.

The former planned cargo ship was started to construct in the Böhming & Söhne shipyard. After the KDG bought the shipyard and changed it over into the Kaiser-Shipyard, they also decided to fast rebuild the already started cargo ship into a small passenger liner. For this a second boiler room was constructed and upper parts of the former cargo hold area was changed into living areas for passengers and crew.

The D.S. Welfen was not the biggest ship in northern germany, but she was well constructed and could come up to a speed of 14 Knots. She was first used on the route betwen Kiel - Hamburg - Southampton - Cherbourgh.
At 1893 she also started to travel the north Atlantic route, from Hamburg to New York.
She transporting only two classes, a first class and a steerage class, wich was more like a second class.
During a storm in 1897 her foremast was broken and crushe against the bridge, what resulted into the destruction of the main rudder. The last two days of the voyage to New York she was controlled from the aft rudder at the manouvering bridge on the stern.
She was sold at 1905 to a British company and was transformed to a ferry wich run the route along the british coast.
1911 the ship got highly damaged during a colission with a cargo ship and was sold to got scraped.

The D.S. Welfen is my first constructed steam ship in minecraft.
It isn´t enourmus or very large, but it is filled with a lot ofe nice details wich I hope you guys like it.
She has only one main dek and a top deck and a boat deck for passangers.
