Hello,

this is the Sakala-Class Deep Desert Command Carrier Kapisi from the video game "Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak".
It is an aircraft carrier, military base and mobile factory operating on land (more precisely on sand).
Being
565 meters (0.35 miles, 618 yards or 1854 feet) long,
281 meters (0.17 miles, 307 yards or 922 feet) wide and
145.5 meters (0.09 miles, 159 yards or 477 feet) high, it is much bigger than any land vehicle on earth.

On the internet, there are different sources stating different lengths for the Kapisi. They range from 563 meters over 565 meters to the top bidder of 568 meters. When building the Kapisi I aimed at a length of 568 meters but due to cumulated rounding errors I ended up with 565 meters which was exactly one of the stated lengths, so I saw no need to change it.

In the last two renders I put some other "big" vehicles (my Terex Mining Excavator, the NASA Crawler Transporter and Bagger 288) next to the carrier to compare its size.

In "Deserts of Kharak", the Sakala-class carriers were made by the Coalition of the Northern Kiithid in order to push through the great banded desert and enemy territory to eventually find an anomaly deep within the desert.
Although the carriers are fully capable of fighting for themselves, their main strength lies in their ability to produce various kinds of smaller vehicles and aircraft. This lets the player create a powerful fleet using the resources like meteorites or crashed spaceships on Kharak.

In case you are wondering what a land based vehicle like this has to do with "Project 2048" read the story below!

A story of humans and resources

You may also be wondering why I chose an aircraft carrier on land for "Project 2048" in the first place. I will explain it in the following section.

Why I chose an aircraft carrier for Project 2048

Since the gallery is already filled with renders and screenshots, I am going to put the reference images here. Besides many screenshots made by other people (I don't own the game) I used a video showing all of the campaign's cutscenes and featuring some close-up gameplay.

Reference images and video

Enjoy!
CreditSpecial thanks to all the people who made "Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak"!

Maybe add some planes or smaller vehicles on top of it??
(just a suggestion)
Other than that, I love the build and I can't imagine how people build things like this.
Amazing!!!

I had the idea of putting three strike fighters and a bomber on the deck but due to limited time (it was a contest) I decided to build the strike fighters and bombers later and post them as own projects.

About the "how do people build things like this":
First, you need a lot of time but many people probably don't have that much time or don't want to spend it on building.
Second, you have to be motivated enough to start building xD
This works best if you really love what you plan to build. Then you just want to make it and see it come to life. You don't care about the effort you have to put into it, so it doesn't feel like "work".

After that, it only takes some patience and consistency until you are finished. Sometimes, I asked myself why I'm even building such a ridiculously large carrier. But you know, I love the Kapisi and wanted to see it in full size and be able to walk on it and look at it from all sides. So, I carried on until she was finished.

This is amazing, but I just want to know, if this design is based on a design from a video game, then how did it make it into the contest?

Well, you ready for a short story? Great!

When I read the introductory storyline for the contest (you can read it here) it reminded me sooooo much of the story in the video game "Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak". There, people also live on a dying planet and search for a way to escape it by launching a massive expedition through their planet's perilous desert regions.

I knew the game for quite some time already and loved it ever since for its amazing visual design and the atmosphere it creates.
Most impressive was the land based aircraft carrier, of course. It is the "mothership" during your expedition through the desert. So, for me it is the symbol for expedition, exploration, curiosity, leaving everything behind and pushing one's boundaries - literally.
Therefore, I thought it was more than fitting for a contest about exploration.

The "Homeworld" series originally is a space based video game. "Deserts of Kharak" is the only ground based title within the "Homeworld" series. So I thought, you know, I'm close enough to space, especially because the expedition in "Deserts of Kharak" eventually leads to the space exploration in the other "Homeworld" games.

And I really like building vehicles. I didn't even think about making a spaceship xD (okay, I did briefly but abandoned the idea quickly)

Luckily, I was on vacation, so I had a lot of time I could spend on building and I don't regret doing it xD
It was a lot of fun and I am happy that this contest gave me the inspiration and motivation to build something so huge.
I had the idea of making it since I know "Deserts of Kharak" but never actually did it. I rarely make big builds in general because I usually need a special reason to put so much effort into something.

But here you go, that is how a giant land carrier like the Kapisi makes it into a Minecraft building contest.
You only need someone committing themselves to building it and enough time. Upload it, done :)

For me it's the same with speaking. I just can't seem to find the right words quickly enough that accurately describe what I would like to describe. When writing like here I've got all the time I need to come up with good wording.

Can I ask how long it took? I haven't seen many megabuilds, but that's by far the best one I've seen. If it's classed as a megabuild, lol.

I would definitely classify this carrier as a megabuild xD
It took 20 days with about 9 to 11 hours of building each day. Don't worry though, I was in my holidays so I could do something like that.
I'm a relatively slow builder. Maybe other people could have built it in less time. But I'm convinced good things simply take some time.
And I'm glad you like it (I like it, too xD) :)

Yeah, you know, with this "story of war" I would like to raise awareness for which "dumb" reasons wars exist.
There basically only are wars if some party wants something but another party wants that exact same thing, too and they're unable to figure out a better solution than bombarding each other.
It's like two little kids fighting over sweets xD

Funny enough, physically fighting each other has been the most used way of "solving disagreements" in the history of mankind.
Now the question is: How likely is it that this will change in the future?
