This building belongs to our new project, the empire Castaire.
After the big fire of Lucrécy, many parts of the city were almost destroyed. Roughly 40 percent of the urban area were partially or completely destroyed. Especially the districts in the south of the cathedral burned down. Many governmental institutions fell victim to the fire, for instance the Imperial Library and the Archive, while the latter survived the fire nearly undamaged because many of the documents were stored in the basements where they were nearly saved from the blaze. Thou at least the history of the city remained intact and old blueprints could be used to rebuild the destroyed parts.
Also, the eastern wing of the university, a high school and the theatre were destroyed in the firestorm. This catastrophe plunged the population of Lucrécy into a depression. Indeed, the immediate reconstruction phase started, but the overall mood remained subdued.
Because of that, the Emperor decided to give his people a completely new, magnificent building and ordered the rebuild of the theatre in a bigger and more splendid than its predecessor. A completely new concept was the opening of the new opera also for the poorer parts of the population on some days. This idea was funded by donations from pilgrims, tourists and the local nobility. Also, the government sold town charters to many regions in the Empire.
The construction started at the eastern waterside of the Grande Canale, where the theatre and the high school were located. The exterior of the opera belongs to the baroque style, although there are some renaissance elements in honor of the old theatre. The construction phase remained approximately 12 years, but includes also the time used to build basements and foundations.
Since the grand opening , many performances were presented, which drew a lot of (also international) attention. Also the play “La Familia”, which was written by the “normal” people, became one of the most recognized stage plays in Castaire. Beside the main stage in the grand hall, there are some cabarets, a music school, a school for character dance and a daily opened restaurant.
The actual building costs were never made public, but they are valued at several million Souverains.
