Hey guys! So I was building another little modern house when I came up with the idea to put them together and create a small little town. So this is a project where a lot more houses will follow in the future! As always you can download the house and check it out yourself.

Great house! And just a warning this is how it starts... first you build one house, then another, and another, then a skyscraper and before you know it your building a city! Keep up the good work!

Hey man thanks a bunch! You're totally right as the village / city is getting bigger and bigger and other regions are planned as well. Thank you for the feedback! :)

It looks nice, but fairly generic. It looks like most of the other modern builds.
Not that it's bad, but honestly, I like originality.

So does it matter if it looks generic when its looking nice? And anyways, isn't that what actually makes a modern house or do you want me to build a triangle? :p

Doesn't matter if it looks generic really, but with modern, I know originality is extremely hard to get.
And really, what makes a modern house is atmosphere and inspiration. Look at Frank Lloyd Wright, for example. His inspiration is nature, and well, you can see that. That also creates his atmosphere.
Of course I'm not asking for you to be historic architect tier at building, I just want to see more buildings that aren't just the same thing over and over.

And yes, I do realize that my old modern builds contribute to all the generic-ness.

So the challenge for me basically is the size. If I would claim a 100 by 100 plot in the middle of a terraformed landscape I could see your point. For now, it's just creating a nice looking house within a 15x15 kinda "plot". To change materials would take 20 seconds but I just think that those houses look very nice together for now.

And there surely will be improvements in the future. Maybe I'll change some materials and surely I'll change the landscape. Good Luck building a Frank Lloyd styled house in a 15x15 sized plot :D

As said: I just try to get out the maximum of a small sized plot. If you want something special have a look at my Sandstone Mansion for example.. :-) But anyways: I know what you're saying and for sure there will be houses like that in the future. Maybe even within the Lakeside project itself. ;)

i agree with sergeant sarcasm. the building does seem generic, although there's nothing inherently bad about it. i think that you're starting to get an understanding of what makes buildings modern, and this is obviously reflected in your project.

i think the next step for you is experimenting with building materials. modern =/= white. white clay and other monochrome blocks are super easy to build with -- they are inherently modern because of their color. what will set you apart from other builders is your ability to understand the materials you are working with.

i was about to continue writing but i totally lost my train of thought. but i hope that advice helps.

Yeah I kinda saw that coming :p Anyways I agree with both of you! I just used to build fantasy style buildings for quite some while and Iam very new to modern as the houses I share with you are one of my first attempts.. ;-)

I get your limitations, and you do make use of them very well. You should make more houses like your Sandstone Manion more often, it's a great representation of your talent.
