Roman Castrum

The Roman Castra was a fortified military camp that was replicated throughout the Roman Empire. They followed a similar layout between all of them, so any soldier could be put in any camp and they would be the same. It had two roads, one running East and West, and the other running North and South, along with a grid-like pattern connecting all the other buildings. There were 4 gates and guard towers positioned along the walls aswell as trenches dug around many for added protection. There were divided into 3 sections: The Praetentura, which contained the Barracks, blacksmithes, and hospitals, the Latera Pratoril, which contained the Principia, Temples, granarys, and other food storage, and the Retentura, which consisted of Officers' tents, gold and other valuables gathered during raids, and high ranking POWs.
