Die SS. Schleswig wurde 1902 als 2. Schiff der Holstein-Klasse von der Schleswig-Holsteinischen-Schifffahrtsgesellschaft in Dienst gestellt. Mit ihren Schwestern gehörte sie zu den grössten und luxuriösesten Schiffen ihrer Zeit. 1913 wurde sie im Zuge des Titanic-Unglücks mit mehr Rettungsbooten und höheren Schottwänden ausgestattet und Generalüberholt. Während des 1. Weltkriegs sollte sie zum Hospitalschiff umgebaut werden, dieses Projekt wurde jedoch nie umgesetzt. Nach dem Krieg ging sie wie ihre Schwester die Holstein an die Cunard-Line als Reperationszahlung gegeben und in Babylonia umbenannt und 1920 wieder auf die Transatlantik-route gesetzt. 1926 wurde sie dann zu einem reinen Kreuzfahrtschiff umgebaut. 1929 kam es während einer Mittelmeerkreuzfahrt im Hafen von Rhodos zu einem Brand im Maschinenraum welcher sich rasant über das Schiff ausbreitete, da sich die Passagiere und grössere Teile der Besatzung auf Landgang befanden gab es nur einige Verletzte. Danach wurde das Schiff jedoch zum Totalverlust erklärt und abgewrackt.

The SS Schleswig was commissioned in 1902 as the second ship of the Holstein class by the Schleswig-Holsteinische Schiffahrtsgesellschaft. Together with her sister ships, she ranked among the largest and most luxurious vessels of her time. In 1913, following the Titanic disaster, she was refitted with additional lifeboats and higher bulkheads, and underwent a general overhaul. During World War I, she was intended to be converted into a hospital ship, but the project was never carried out. After the war, like her sister ship Holstein, she was handed over to the Cunard Line as part of reparations, renamed Babylonia, and returned to the transatlantic route in 1920. In 1926, she was converted into a dedicated cruise ship. In 1929, during a Mediterranean cruise, a fire broke out in the engine room while she was docked in the port of Rhodes. The blaze spread rapidly throughout the ship; however, since most passengers and a large part of the crew were ashore at the time, only a few injuries occurred. The ship, however, was declared a total loss and subsequently scrapped.
