I made this very quickly. Then I used a cave function to get the look the map has. This will be a fun map to explore and try to survive in, warning though, there aren't too many resources!! Good Luck!

How could you tell? By the image that world painter exports? Or how about the different biome colors... Or what about those caves that are specific to worldpainter? Dang, you sir, are a genius.

I use World Painter, it has a feature which creates mountains, in the EXACT layer format this is in, Grass -> Stone -> Snow. And you credited a guy who made custom trees, those custom trees are usually used specifically for World Painter (And I think McEdit). But I would have to say, good job on making them look like a natural landscape. I can never make mine look natural :/. I know when somebody used a program. And think logically, why would anybody want to create a mountain by hand? That would be boring. Good luck.

If you're looking to create realistic terrain in worldpainter, you need to get really experienced with it. First step is to look up some custom tree packs, organize those so may find them well. Then, get yourself some custom brushes. Now, you have the tools, use your creativity for the rest. Best of luck to you, good sir.

I know it has a feature that creates mountains, its called the "Raise Mountain" tool. And actually, the guy I got that tree pack for is a big time world painter, and he is using the same tree pack in his project, Earth @ 1:1500. So yes, it is meant for world painter as long as you are careful and know what you are doing. And I have created mountains by hand before, in a server and I was in survival. Obviously I would prefer to use Voxel Sniper, and the benefit to that is that I can create caves/overhangs/arches. But alas, I do not have my own server.

ZombehPig, when making worldpainter maps, try to refrain from using the caves feature. It's generally pretty weird and ugly looking xP But your mountains look good as far as detail goes, try using that to your advantage, make some free to use server maps, or survival islands, etc. etc., you know? Anyway, that's all I have to say, good day to you sir! :D
