Just starting a new project to work on after finishing Ironfall:
www.planetminecraft.com/project/ironfall-a-resetting-multiplayer-server-dungeon/
*
This new project is called The Rotting Herd, and is going to have a different sort of gameplay to it.
This is going to be a modern zombie survival adventure map, set in a very detailed post-apocalypse city.
Your camp survived the zombie virus, but the hordes of undead grow by the hour and supplies are dwindling...
You have decided to escape your panic room in the middle of downtown for the calm open mountains.
*
Instead of simply being an all-out battle to kill the endless waves of undead, The Rotting Herd will all about using the environment and clever puzzles and tricks to move the herds of zombies around, trap them, or cause them to fall into traps that spell their doom!
Think of it like lemmings... but the whole point is to kill off literally thousands upon thousands of undead zombies that have flooded the streets of the city...
I think it will be a lot of fun!
Some of the features I am planning:
1. custom sound track and ambient noise tracks to add to the player's experience.
2. a highly detailed decayed urban environment, with a focus on using lighting to enhance the creepy mood.
3. will be designed as a re-setting dungeon, and will have bedrock protective walls hidden through it, so that if you decide to use it as a spawn point for your server, all new players will have to advance through it to escape (similar to a jail server map)
*
the city is divided into 10 main sections, not including the sewer systems, the spawn zone, and the subway, which will all have gameplay in them. (13 zones total)
Its a post apocalyptic walled city called Three Hills.
fitting with the name, in the center of the walls, there are three large hills, the biggest one is Sultan Hill and is about 600 meters wide (about 6 full sized blocks).
Next to Sultan Hill are Engine Hill and Middle Marsh Pond.
starting from the north and going clockwise around the inside of the walls around the city, there is:
1. Three Hills Mall
2. The Stadium (north end of downtown commercial district)
3. Downtown
4. Downtown (historical district)
5. Low Rent (warehouses, strip malls, and cheap apartments)
6. Rail Yards
7. West Engine Trailer Park and Poplar's Park
8. Mansions
9. Uptown (theatre, nice big suburban style homes)
and on top of Sultan Hill is considered the middle section, as 7 overlaps with Engine Hill and Commerce Hill is located between 1. and 2.
*
The nether is going to be a 1/8th shrunken replica of the city map made from bedrock, so that if you move around from place to place in the nether, you will actually SEE where you will appear if you build a portal.
Although above the city in the Nether... I MAY decide to eventually put something really strange for people to explore... like a giant machine with puzzles in it.
There are three main Freeways crossing the city on risers, and the south area of the Low Rent area will be bordered by waterfront and piers. There will be an area with cranes and shipping containers and some boats.
*
as with the texture pack, road and utility layout, I am trying to keep the architecture as real as possible, because I want to really make an impact on people when I reveal this project in video form and upload the maps for players.
*
I have just begun work on this, but will be updating this regularily...
If you want to help, we can set this up as a private build-server, but I will be screening collaborators carefully... please post some good quality reference pictures or maps.
If you already have a server, like a post apocalypse server or a zombie server (or want to start one), I would be willing to build this live on your server for shared cred, just let me know and we can discuss the details!
*
Part 1 of this project has begun: Urban Sprawl 64x, an HD optifine texture pack custom designed for use with The Rotting Herd.
