1:1 scale of the Yokosuka K5Y, first one is the K5Y2 a floatplane with bright orange Akatombo or "red dragonfly" after a type of insect common throughout Japan and the other one is a K5Y1 at Dirgantara Mandala Museum, Indonesia
About the plane:
九三式中間練習機 (Type 93 Intermediate Training Aircraft) Tjoereng
The Yokosuka K5Y (九三式中間練習機, Kyūsanshikichūkanrenshūki, Type 93 Intermediate Training Aircraft, Allied reporting name: "Willow") was a two-seat unequal-span biplane trainer that served in the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. Due to its bright orange paint scheme (applied to all Japanese military trainers for visibility), it earned the nickname "aka-tombo", or "red dragonfly", after a type of insect common throughout Japan.
19th aircraft. This is the plane I love the most, although not that special if we see it from the specification nor the design it's just a simple under-powered biplane.. But for me, this plane means all the world.. Why? It's one of the first aircraft the Indonesia's air force had ever owned, They took a good care of the broken down Japanese planes and do with all their might to bring these aircraft back to life once more time. They did a bombing run too with this aircraft, an outdated under-powered biplane carrying bombs to Dutch base armed with AAs. These are the flying coffin they said, and yet they still fly without even having that much of experience. Anyway, this one is an old model and I will see you tomorrow! bye-bye!
