I'd like to make it known that this is my final contest skin. I won't be entering another for a long time or permanently.
Hannya masks: These theatrical devices were used in Japanese theatre and symbolized the souls of Jealous women. White masks were associated with women of high power and position in the Japanese hierarchy, whereas red masks were associated with lower-class women. The shade of red is also different in respect to what it is portraying. A dark red shade, for instance, would be indicative of a woman appearing as a demon.
Fun fact: This is the first female skin I've done in approximately two years. Crazy stuff, yo.
The colors were fun to work on with this. Also, the palette is a flippin' mess. But, as usual, feel free to download and use the palette yourself! :)

The Sun sweeps through a village. He is golden, flamboyant, and nothing more.
The Maiden, hidden behind a window, witnesses the Sun. He is everything and more.
She needs to touch the silken cloth that the Sun is wreathed in
To caress his face and take his body against hers
To weather crashing waves thrown by the gods themselves.
Not love, but greed bountiful it is indeed.
Eternities pass for one but seconds merest expire for the other.
And the golden light flees, bored with the world as usual.
And its shadow follows, craving incandescence
The Sun sweeps through the world
and the Maiden pursues
The Sun lays his kiss upon every woman's face
and the Maiden, jealous, lays a knife upon them
The Sun sets himself to sleep, swaddled in clouds of white
and the Maiden, with a carved smile and a scarlett road behind her
Lays herself upon him in the night
And blots out the light.
Not love, but greed bountiful it is indeed.

Improved colors, contrast, and definition on different parts of the skin. Also, the palette has been reorganized and "streamlined" (if you can the titanic mess that).

There are plenty of awesome tutorials on this site that can help you with getting started. Make observations on how your favorite artists make their skins and try experimenting with different styles.
MCSkin3D is a great skinning platform for any windows user, but if you're a Mac user, try GIMP or photoshop. They can do the job just as well, albeit with a harder learning curve.
I have a series of tutorials on the fundamentals of skinning, so if you need any starter tips, those should suffice.
