The Schutzstaffel, or simply SS, was the Nazi paramilitary security force formed by Adolf Hitler during WW2. Arguably, this organization was responsible for all of the major war crimes the Nazi regime was known for. Heinrich Himmler was the head of the SS from 1929 to 1945. Joining the Nazi party in 1923, he took part in the growth of Nazism in Germany, where he was soon made Reichsführer-SS of the Schutzstaffel in 1929. One of the most famous Nazis, he was Hitler's right hand man and would follow his orders and Nazi ideology without question throughout the war. Himmler would remain a powerful figure in Nazi Germany all the way until the end of the war, where he was stripped of his rank for his betrayal against Hitler's orders. He committed suicide in Allied captivity, but his legacy lived on to be the backbone of what Nazi Germany stood for. Himmler was often seen wearing his greatcoat during visits to other countries, or whilst riding in his vehicle to meet other Nazi officials during situational weather.
