For anyone nostalgic for Minecraft's pre-Texture Update textures, the built-in Programmer Art pack can be disappointing as its old textures for ores, buckets, and netherrack stick out like a sore thumb among recent additions such as deepslate ores, the bucket of powder snow, and nylium. When a new item is added whose texture is derived from an old item, mismatch results since Programmer Art is never updated with new additions.

This pack aims to fix that frustration by replacing the textures of several post-1.13 additions to better fit their older family members. For example, the Netherite tools are remade to follow the design pattern set by the other tools in versions before Netherite was added. Also, the Villagers and Zombie Villagers are properly restored to their pre-1.14 designs. When this pack is applied above Programmer Art, the frustrating mismatch disappears and the world is at peace once again.

NOTE: This pack will only work as intended when applied DIRECTLY ABOVE the built-in Programmer Art resource pack. Do anything else and it'll look weird.

BEDROCK PLAYERS STAY TUNED: Your counterpart to this pack will be the Classic Texture Pack Enhanced for Windows 10/11; find it at the mentioned link when it releases. It's the exact same premise with the exact same textures... but for BE. Note that I will work to maintain parity between these two packs, but the Java version will almost always update first as JE is much easier to work with when it comes to resource pack-making. If you're interested in updates to the BE pack, I would suggest following this page as well as that one to be notified ahead of time for when an update is coming.

Currently, this pack contains custom overhauled textures for:
  • All Chest Boats
  • All Deepslate Ores, and Stone Copper Ore
  • All Netherite items
  • Block of Copper (normal, exposed, weathered, and oxidised)
  • Block of Netherite
  • Blue Ice
  • Bucket of Axolotl, Powder Snow, and Tadpole
  • Cobbled Deepslate
  • Copper and Netherite Ingots
  • Crimson and Warped Nylium
  • Crimson and Warped Planks, Sign, and Stem Tops
  • Crying Obsidian tear particle
  • Glow Ink Sac
  • Glow Squid
  • Mangrove Boat, Log Tops, Planks, and Sign
  • Mud and Muddy Mangrove Roots
  • Nether Gold Ore
  • Netherite Armour
  • Recovery Compass
  • Respawn Anchor
  • Soul Torch
  • Tinted Glass
  • Zombified Piglin
The pack also slightly revises the textures of the Pillager, the Brown Mooshroom, the Piglin and Piglin Brute (WORK IN PROGRESS!), Raw Metals, and the "Pigstep" and "5" Music Discs and Fragments. It also implements the old textures for the Villagers and Zombie Villagers, which don't work at all with the built-in Programmer Art.

Any further suggested additions and revisions are welcome in the comments. I plan to update this with every major Minecraft release, and I will keep you posted on whether the pack will require an update for minor releases.
Latest: 1.19 (will work perfectly fine with 1.18).

You are free to modify, re-use, and repost any or all of my work in this pack under the following conditions:
  1. You must notify me in the comments of this page or in a DM, preferably with a link to your reupload page.
  2. You must provide credit to me, somewhere conspicuous, inside of your pack and on the corresponding download page, whether that be on Planet Minecraft or another site such as CurseForge.
  3. If it's a re-upload within the scope of this website, please actually add to or modify the pack in some way. Perhaps even remove a few things, and direct people back to this page for the full experience. If you're reposting it to another website, so long as you make it very clear that it's not your work, I won't care as much about how much you add to it.

i remember a time when we didnt have items, and a time when zombies dropped feathers cause we didnt have chickens. and when we did no one could agree if it was a chicken or a duck. so many good memories are in this texture pack of urs. it brings me joy that people are trying to keep the old style of Minecraft around. thx so much for this. it brought tears to my eyes to see u make my childhood memories come back

Glad you like it. I don't see this specific pack catching on that much more as there are lots of alternatives (some much better) from bigger creators.

Could you make a port of this pack to Bedrock?

I imagine that it'll be rather difficult to find out what's included in the Classic Texture Pack (the Bedrock counterpart to Java's Programmer Art). I'll see what I can do, though.

You should change the blue ice texture to match the older ice

On it! Although technically, Blue Ice was added before the Texture Update...

JAPPA joined around 1.12 and that's also when TU betas started coming out for download so by 1.13 the textures were either new style or a mix between the too (like stripped log tops being the shape of old logs but with the limited colour palette of the new one, or like dark oak trapdoors shading in the new shape already), meaning it's a grey area that's frequently replaced, hehe
