Currently, the only way the site shows that a submission is already in a collection is to pop up a dialog box when the user attempts to add it. Then the user has to click again to close the box. I find this (very mildly) annoying. I think this could be improved by indicating in the context menu that the submission is already in a collection. This could be done by graying out the collection name or using a different icon.
