Hello everyone! For those of you who dono t know me, I am coolkevin867. I have decided to make a blog centered around how to get noticed on PMC. This is mainly for skinners (mostly because I am one), but for those of you who areno t skinners, dono t leave yet. This blog, I believe, brings out some very valid points for everyone to see. Below you will see a list of topics to help you get noticed. You can view them in order or not, your decision. I hope you like my new blog :D

Theme

You will notice in the introduction I mentioned this is mainly for skinners, which means most of my examples will be about skinning, especially for this topic. So what is the theme? It is the idea your project, texture pack, mod, skin etc. is based on. Some of the things people post dono t have much of a theme, but they dono t usually make it very far. I think that the first step in making anything is choosing a theme. It could be anything, but not all themes are going to be very popular. Io m not saying you cano t take an unpopular theme and get thousands of views on it. Io m simply explaining that the chances of it are decreased. For example, I made a Colonel Sanders skin from Kentucky Fried Chicken. This is obviously not a very popular theme. I thought it was executed very well, being one of my best skins. Unfortunately not many people want a Colonel Sanders skin. Of course I knew this before making the skin and I made it to try and challenge myself (and because I like making random skins). I try my best to have fun with everything I make, which is the ultimate goal here. But there is a way to do this, while getting popular for it. I think that right now, the popular themes are aliens/space ships/giant medieval cities. Even if the execution is done worse than many other, less noticed things (which we will learn about in the next topic), it was the theme that made it popular.

After choosing your theme, your need to start working. Execution is key at this point as the theme can only carry you so far. You could look at tutorials if you dono t know how to do something (or if you want to do that thing better). There are a number of people out there who would like to help, including myself. Make sure you get help if you think you may need it, because you dono t want to build up a bad reputation (which I talk about later). For example, I have been making skins for a while, but I didn't really start making ones with okay quality until just a bit ago. My first skins involved no shading and were not very good. This affected my reputation, not in a big way, but it still affected it. So the moral to this topic is that execution is everything, if you dono t execute your topic well, you will not make it very far. There are a number of tutorials, including the one I created for skinning.

Posting your first thing on PMC can be a big deal, at least it was for me. Unfortunately I hadno t really grasped the concept of posting yet. I didno t make a description and I posted at the complete wrong time. I had spent a lot of time on this project (my Mansion), it was very well executed. A lot of my work was kind of thrown away at this point because of the time I posted and what I put on the page. The first thing I will talk about is timing. This is a very sensitive portion. If you dono t time your posting correctly, you can lose a lot of viewers. This isno t as true with the people who are already well known, because they have followers who will find their work one way or another, whether the timing is right or not. But for all of you who areno t, Io m here to help. Io ve already seen some blogs on this subject, although it is not a very popular one. If you were to post in the day, there are many people who may see it. There is a lot of traffic on PMC at almost all times of the day. Unfortunately this may be drowned out by all the other people who are thinking the same thing. Posting at night has the opposite issues: there areno t many people posting, but there isno t much traffic. My advice to all of you is to look at your time zone. If you dono t know how, you can look it up on a map. Figure out how far ahead and/or behind you are mainly from the US and Sweden. If you live in the US, I wouldno t worry about the timing for Sweden because of the substantial time difference, same vise-versa. For example, I live on the west coast of the US, which means I am usually behind people time-wise. So I would probably want to post at around 15:00 (or 3:00 PM). I would do this because I want to allow people to get out of school (as most of the audience is children) and because I want to make sure people on a different time zone can see my work. The second item Io d like to cover in the Posting topic is the page you post your work on. It should have a full description, many tags (although not too many), and many pictures. It should also be correctly labeled in the right category depending on what your posting is of or about. Your description should correctly analyze what you have made, telling us what it is, the reason you made it, and any other details you would like to talk about. Dono t make this description too lengthy (like this blog :P) because you will lose many people. This goes along with tagging your posting. You dono t want to give it a million tags that dono t pertain to the post. You want to give it a reasonable 5 to 10 so that it can be found easily. Pictures are also an issue for many people. My best advice for this is to quickly pop into MS Paint (or any image editing program) and slap some words on the front. These words should tell you the title and author. You should probably also add a lot of other pictures that show what your posting is about (this doesno t apply to things like blogs and skins). The moral to this blog is to research your time zone and post accordingly, make sure you make a solid description, and take lots of pictures :D

Popularity, as discussed slightly early, is probably the most unfair aspect to any community. In PMCo s case, the more popular you are, the higher your chances of getting views. You just need to hang on and make some quality posts. If you do this you will get popular. It may seem like many popular users are getting thousands of views fort things they spent five minutes working on. They are popular for a reason and please do not hate on them (or anyone for a matter of fact). You can read much more about this on my also very lengthy blog about popularity.

I think that deals are the things that get me most agitated. This includes things like sub for subs and diamond for diamonds. Please do not participate in this, if people enjoy your comment they will subscribe, diamond, favorite etc. You shouldno t need to force people into liking your content if ito s good. If you need to do this, make better stuff, ito s as simple as that. Spend more time on each of your posts, watch tutorials if you need to. This hurts your reputation much more than a bad project or skin. This might permanently affect your reputation. This, of course, does not include healthy deals like Skin Battles and supporting someone elseo s page.

I have mentioned reputation a lot throughout the blog. I was going to integrate this with popularity, but I decided not to because they are slightly different. Popularity is number of views and subscribers you have. Reputation is the status you hold with others. Reputation is very important if you want to make it far on PMC or anything as a matter of fact. As mentioned earlier, do not make deals, they hurt your reputation greatly. Also think about your post and whether ito s really worth posting. Will it improve your reputation? If you decide it wono t, dono t post it anyway. Spend more time on it and make it better. Please take time on your postings, reputation is extremely important as it can permanently affect your presence in any community.

Thank you guys so much for clicking on this blog. If you didno t get through all the information, thato s okay, I know it was a lot. But for those of you who did, tell me down in the comments section. Also tell me about how I am doing, what would you like to see more of, is there anything I can improve on in this blog or just about anything? Thanks and I hope you all enjoyed. If you did, dono t forget to click that diamond, favorite, and subscribe button. I check it every couple of hours and I greatly appreciate it when someone does anything (even views one of my pieces)

Very well done blog, it helped me realize that if you want someone else to like your projects, you have to be utterly satisfied with it yourself.
