Hi guys, just wanted to write something before I start school. If you've ever heard of the expression "jumping on the bandwagon", you'll know that it means for someone, or multiple people, to get apart of a new hype or trend. I'll be talking today about the snowball affect and how our ever increasing community has an advantage and a disadvantage for doing so. Enjoy...
And also, THANKS ON 1000 SUBSCRIBERS! It's been a wonderful year of blogging, and I couldn't of done it without you guys. You're such an inspiration to keep me going, and I'm glad I did. I never thought in a million years I'd get this far, but thank you!
"Oh, Everyone is Doing Teen Skins Now?"
Of course a trend that will not go away, but nonetheless a trend. When I talk about trends, I talk about children using something called a 'snowball effect'. What this snowball effect does, is that let's say your standing on top of a hill. You throw a snowball down this hill, and it continues to roll. It rolls and rolls, gaining snow faster and faster, until it's 10x the size that it was before.
Teen skins is a perfect example of this 'gaining popularity'. They're simple, easy to make, and can appeal to most young people. But once it starts, it's probably never going to stop. It also helps in with the opposing side as well; LOADS of rants made on teen skins, people constantly voicing their opinion on them, and so on. Because something is trendy, also inquires an opposite force to equally dislike it.
This is something that ultimately cannot be stopped. As much as you blog or complain about it, it won't ever go away (and remember the rants that you make contribute to the trend, too!). Your best bet for making a trend to dissipate is... to ignore the fact that it ever exists. Like ignoring 1 Direction; I never listen to their music because I don't likeitbutI don't complain about it verbally or write angry walls of text on Facebook. Ignore it, and it'll eventually go away... sometimes life works out that way. Sometimes doing something actually causes the problem even further.
The Snowballing Trends That Hurt
Some trends that tend to happen here on this lovely site seem to hurt more than they do good. I know a lot of trends lately have centered around the blogs section - it's caused people to make art blogs, or to write 'how 2survivurfurstnite', or something that requires little effort to make. These little things that everyone feels obliged to add in their own thing actually hurts the site more than it does good.
The purpose of the blogs section (in my opinion, really) is to serve the community with written content, made by you. Of course it has its different topics such as interviews, reviews, articles, etc., but I have noticed a hint of laziness posted in these blogs. Next to skins, blogs are by far the easiest to post for EXP. That's probably the main reason why they are posted, but also because they saw someone else do it.
Now, this leads back to watching over your own actions. You will never know how much harm or good you can do just by simply pressing the submit button. Trends can start just by one person, so be wary of what you're about to say, or what you're about to do. You never know what's going to catch on next. Whether you're level 1 with no posts, or level 99 and 10,000 subscribers, you will always have the power to influence others, regardless if they know you did it 'before it was cool'.
