Welcome to the world of minecraft! If you are not playing on peaceful mode, you will encounter monsters. Here's how to survive your first night.
1. Find a tree. If you started out in a desert, well, you're gonna have to walk awhile to get to one.
2. Scroll over onto a section of the tree trunk and hold down the left mouse button. Wait until the trunk breaks and collect the wood. Collect the rest of the trunk on the tree.
3. Press E to open your inventory. Next to your character, you will see a little 2x2 grid. Place your wood in that grid.
4. You will see that it will make wooden planks next to your grid. There is an arrow that points to it. Click and drag the wooden planks into your inventory.
5. Take your wooden planks and put one in each square of the 2x2 grid. Click and drag the crafting table into your
inventory.
6. Place the crafting table by putting it in the bottom row of grids, scrolling to it via number keys, and right click to set down.
7. Right click the crafting table to open up a 3x3 grid. Put two wooden planks on top of each other in the grid. This will make sticks.
7. Place the sticks on top of each other and then add three wooden planks on the top row to create a pickaxe. This is very important.
8. Find a mountain with stone and mine it by left clicking while equipping the pickaxe. Also, find some blackish ore with particles in it and mine it. This is coal. Very important. Collect enough cobblestone until your pickaxe breaks.
9. Make a new pickaxe by making a wooden pickaxe, but replacing the planks with cobblestone.
10. Use the coal to make torches by putting coal on top of sticks in a grid.
11. Use whatever materials you have to build a house. To make a door for your house, place planks in the far two columns of the 3x3 grid. Place the door from the outside by right clicking the block you want it to cover. Make sure to build a roof.
12. Light up your house by placing torches.
13. Make a sword by putting one stick and two cobblestone above it.
14 (optional). Find some sheep and kill them by left clicking with any item, preferably a sword. Collect 3 blocks of wool and make a bed by putting planks in the bottom row and a row of wool above it in a crafting grid.
15 (optional). Place the bed so that it is one block from each wall. Right-click to sleep.
