Hey, it's BoffBox here with my first official blog. Within this blog I'll be talking about how servers all throughout Minecraft can be improved and I'll be doing this by adressing a few simple questions! If you disagree with me on anything or want to correct me on anything, feel free to do so, I don't want to be seen as someone who thinks they know everything, because I really don't and love a second opinion, just keep it constructive.
So the first question I'll be adressing is "What causes a server to appear, at a first glance, poor quality?"
The answer to that is the chat and the physical aethestics, whether or not the spawn looks nice and what kind of language/conversational topic is occuring in the chat. If the spawn is simple or complex, the blocks used to create it, if it looks nice all factor in what kind of judgement someone places onto a server. Same thing with people in real life. If you care about hygene and the way you look, people will judge you accordingly. Also, if the conversation in the chat sounds like a bunch of children giggling over farting noises rather then actual conversations with meaning, I, like many people, will leave that particular server without a moment's hesitation.
Which brings me to my next question: "How can the server's community be improved?"
That relies on you, the owner, to change the rules and start swinging the ban hammer, even on mods and admins! Now, I don't recommend making the rules overly strict and banning minor offenses, but keep the trouble makers in mind, no matter who they are. Also, posting advertisments to the right places for your server matters!
Another question I'd love to answer is "How do I pick a good group of staff members?"
The answer is simple: quality over quantity. I reccomend making a test or "exam" for potential staff members on the rules, what they'd do in certain situations, etc. If you start noticing a staff member throwing around bans needlessly, demote them, no matter who they are. (Even if they're Notch.)
Lastly, the question of originality. "Does my server need to be original to be a good one?"
No, but originality can draw a nice crowd. Often, the usual faction, hardcore PvP servers draw in a demographic of younger kids, looking to brawl while RP servers tend to bring older players who have good writing skills.
Anyways, I'm going to end it here! Feel free to diamond and subscribe, I'd love you forever! Thank you for reading and I'll definately be writing more blogs like this in the future.

The fact that I see them written here only helps to boost what I already thought to know. I agree that there is no "right way" of running your server, but the community that you will create is the biggest part of it. I've seen this time and time again. I don't really care what the spawn looks like on servers, if the only thing I see is conversations about the most child-ish things ever or the most common "STOP GRIEFING I REPORT YOU STAAAAAHP!!!"... I will most likely leave.
