Lesser skins? What do you mean by this, Gloom?
Lesser skins are skins of lower-level characters, i.e. guards, farmers, soldiers, etc.
Now, it is common to want a skin of a glorious and important character, like a King or a singer. But to me, having a skin like a guard or a simple farmer can convey just as much power, especially if the skin is done well.
So, imagine you are on, say, a medieval roleplaying server, that only allows medieval skins. Chances are you will choose a flamboyant skin like a wizard, a king, a knight, etc. And, considering these skins are a majority, being popular styles, there will be hundreds of choices. Most of them not very good.
Now, there are of course the great skins. But then you run into the problem of the fact that these awesome skins are the ones everyone uses. So, you can either be a clone, or look like your tailor was a newb.
But what if you used something less flamboyant? A farmer, maybe? Now, these skins might be fewer in number, and might still have the same proportion of bad-good skin, but you will also be unique.
Naturally, an easy way to counteract this whole mess is to simply make your own skins, but that might not work so well for you.
These are just musings, but as an idea, I suggest using an interesting and uncommon type of skin for a while. A skin can be considered a minor thing, but a good and unique skin stands out in a crowd. I myself have only ever used my own skins, but that does not mean you cannot use another's skin and not be unique.
Thanks for reading! :)
