HOLD YOUR HORSES!
Before everyone jumps onto the band wagon about the new Warner Bro's movie allegedly taking place. Let me tell you about a small film production's dream being crushed by this. Don't get me wrong, any minecraft movie would be great, but I am a huge fan of the production company that was beaten by Warner Bro's.

BIRTH OF MAN
If you know that title, then you may understand why I am upset. You may know the youtube channel "FeddieW" or as it is now known "RocketJump". The co-founder Brandon Laatsch came out with a conceptual trailer for 'Birth of Man' and started a Kickstarter campaign online to raise $600,000 for a 'funded by the community for the community' type of deal.

If you want to check out the Kickstarter page then click here

This was brought to a halt by Mojang when Markus tweeted:
undefined
Meaning that Brandon did not  sort out any rights to Mojang's interlectual property, which brought the project to a standstill with just $63,980 raised. This money was then refunded to the backers of the campaign (including me as I also donated). Supporters like myself were then kept in a state of silence from Mojang and Brandon, which left us confused as to what was going to happen!

THE ANSWER
So now, supporters of the movie have been given the answer as to why such a great movie was shut down. Mojang had been arranging a movie with Warner Bro's and that is totally understandable. I am not in any way implying that Mojang did anything wrong because it is business, they had the choice to reel in the big fish or the little fish; Warner Bro's naturally being the big fish.

My wish is that Warner Bro's cut off some slack to Brandon and the team and find some way to include them on the ride as they were so passionate about their movie, and to see that dream be crushed just unsettles me deeply. As an aspiring film maker I understand how fustrated Brandon must be about this, the film industry is a dog eat dog business.

THANK YOU
My last blog was recieved very well by the PMC community, being only my 2nd blog it managed to make it's way onto the blog highlight reel! I got great feedback from fellow bloggers, including one of my favourites NetherApprentice. I woke up to see all this possitivity and my day was good from the start! It was that much better afterwards because I went to a real life coal mine 300ft below with my girlfriend for the day... but that my friends, is for another day to blog

As far as my understanding goes was that they had already had the ok from Mojang just Notch wasn't told or he missed it somewhere.

We still don't know, Brandon is still keeping the who thing silent so no one knows if it will go on yet; time will tell I guess, because Brandon will have to address the situation soon

Just like the other guy said in Bebopvox said something about them having a licence or something like that. The some type of licence allowed them to continue the movie.

I can understand why Mojang shut down the film, even before I had heard about the Warner Bros. movie. Still, I think it's a really REALLY (and I mean really really) big mistake for Mojang to let WB make a movie out of Minecraft. The big reason is that Minecraft has done so well so far as a purely indie thing. It has gained traction by people spreading the word and making fanmade creations, not by any kind of mass media advertising or big companies getting involved. Brandon's film would have fit right in with what Minecraft is all about: fans making awesome stuff to show their love for an amazing game.

My only question is: If Brandon did not go to Mojang with his idea first, could he have done so and gotten a positive response? Would Mojang have allowed it?

I just really don't want a big studio getting involved.

I can't agree with you more, the indie market was what minecraft was all about. Community is a big thing and creating the game together was also part of it, which Brandon understood as he was giving the opportunity for people to create buildings and landscapes to put in the movie!

I hope WB involve us on their project, and especially the people who helped make it what it is today, including YouTubers ( granted I may not like a lot of them) they dedicate time to animations, music parodies that made minecraft pop culture! I hope WB recognise this and utilize it

I think best-case scenario is WB hires Brandon and his people to make their film. That way they get huge funding for it (though I'd rather the funding come from fans), and Brandon's amazing creative mind.

The Lego Movie wasn't that off track.. It pondered upon Lego's original concept. Maybe they'll do the same with Minecraft.

I didn't find out about "Birth of Man" until I heard about the news of a "Warner Bros. Minecraft movie" circulating.

Yeah it's stirred up quite a fuss within the Rocket Jump fanbase, I checked Brandon's twitter page and he is being bombarded with people asking him about what's to happen with Birth of Man and "Oh this is why it got shut down" etc...

It's business I guess, Monang sold the rights to the most attractive company. Also it's worth noting that Freddie Wong wasn't really involved, it was Brandon's individual project even though Freddie tweeted about the Mojang team on behalf of Rocket Jump
