I used to co-own LumarCraft, one of the most popular tekkit raiding servers (until it shut down, that is), and I'd like to share some tips to you aspiring staff members to show you've got what it takes!

Tip one - Format:
Formatting an application really shouldn't be that difficult. Here's what a basic staff application should look like:
  1. Name:
  2. IGN:
  3. Voice comms:
  4. Age:
  5. Why I would like to be staff:
  6. Staff experience:
  7. A little about myself:

Those are the extreme barebones of the information you should include on your staff application.

Tip two - Don't BS:
Probably the biggest thing I can say on here. Server owners tend to have a thing for finding out if what you're saying on your application is false. If they find what you're saying is false, your chances of being staff are zero. Instead of saying a bunch of crap, just be honest! It goes a longer way then one might think. Think about it this way: Everyone, at some point, had no experience as a staff member, but they were able to present themselves in such a way that the owner wanted to put them through training and teach them! Everything is about first impressions when it comes to staff, and honesty is a big one.

Tip three - Don't spam:
One of the most annoying things about running servers is having a bunch of people messaging you saying that they submitted a staff application, over and over again. It's fine if you do it once, but continuous use of this "tactic" will make them get really annoyed with you and deny you on the spot. Instead of spamming them, or repeatedly reminding them, just let them know kindly once that you have submitted your staff application.

Tip four - Application detail:
This is another big one! Go into good enough detail that they can answer most questions they'd want to ask you just by reading your application, but don't make it 20 pages long. You want to leave some blanks in less important areas, so they'll get more curious and come to you, instead of you always going to them. You want to provide good, clear, quality details about everything on your application.

Tip five - Grammar and spelling:
When submitting your application, treat it like a resume! Make sure all your grammar and spelling is correct. This will show you're taking time and some amount of effort to make an impression. It shows you're willing to be professional about the topic, which any good server owner will notice.

Thanks for reading guys! If you have other tips and suggestions for aspiring staff members, please leave them in the comments below! And as always subscribe, diamond, and favorite if you liked the post! Thanks again!

Or, if you want to be the admin of a server, ask for your friend's server's ip :P (I did do that and I was the admin before he had to close his server for no apparent reason.)

Diamond for you!

Apply for staff and you remove chances of getting it. Simples.

Uh... That's pretty false. Most servers, no matter how helpful you are, and from what I've seen, will only consider you for staff if you apply.

If someone applies on my server or on the majority of my friends servers (Note some of them get 100+ players) will not accept staff applications, And a staff application will remove your chances of getting staff. Servers that ALLOW applications will always have bad quality staff as anyone can say they are doing something - Saying you are doing something and doing it are 2 different things entirely. I once had someone write over 500 lines of an application but in reality they were a terrible staff.

If i see a member being helpful or friendly a lot i will usually request the member to add me on skype. If after a few days the member continues to help and act responsibly, i will give him trusted (/mute, /fly, /kick). If he does well with those commands and uses them fairly, As well as helps out with server building, moderation, and administration, Then i will promote the user to staff after about a week.
If i do not have any more room for staff i will wait until one of my current staff leave or until my playercount rises, And will then promote him.

Admin/Administrator is all about manageing and organising the server. While my administrators can kick and ban people, their main job is come up with and add new features or builds to the server. Admins coordinate and organise the staff. They can also settle any disputes if the staff ever have a difference of opinion.
If a staff member is very active, has been staff for at least 2 weeks, and shows promise in coming up with ideas, features, and coordinating the server, i will promote them to admin.

Yes I agree with you on saying and doing are two different things completely, and whatever works for your server is what you should do. This blog is directed at the new staff members, who will most likely be playing on servers where you submit your staff applications. I also don't understand why you had to put the administrator part on there, haha.

I posted what i said there to my staff chat room, and my staff wondered what my set rules were for admin, So i decided to put it here for extra reference and for more people to know as i was going to type the same thing to them in skype anyway xD.

I agree that it is usually whatever is best for you.
