Hello PMC. This has been a topic I've been thinking about for a while, and figured this would be a good time to write about it. Why? It's my one-year anniversary since I started skinning! I can barely believe it's been this long. Looking back at my oldest skins, I realize how far I've come and I feel grateful for the recognition I've got here at PMC.

Unfortunately, it seems there are many people here at PMC who do not feel the same way. I've seen more than a few disparaging comments made towards 'high level' or 'well-known' skinners (or textures, builders, etc) at PMC. Frustrated at their own lack of success, sometimes people will try to place the blame on people who have achieved success. Jealousy, if you will. My response to this is, and always has been, 'we all started out as noobs'. Leostereo didn't just fall out the heavens with a great gift for skinning and texturing. I didn't just start up MCSkin3D one day and crank out an amazing skin. It's taken me a year and over a hundred skins to get to where I am now, and I still have big room for improvements.

Don't believe me? Well, in honor of my anniversary, I remade one of my very first skins. This is a skin for my bf, a rugged adventurer. When remaking it, I tried to keep the details the same (minus the sweater) while still updating the shading and coloring.

zZHHqmpng

What a difference, huh? So, to everyone who feels discouraged looking at a skin from me or any other 'well-known' skinner, take a good look! I was right there with you. I used noise and had no idea how to shade. My colors looked ugly. I used very simple faces. But, I practiced. I can't guarantee you'll be the next Leostereo. Hell, I can't even guarantee you'll ever get more than a few diamonds on a skin. But I can guarantee that if you practice, you will improve. And, at the end of the day, that should be your ultimate goal.

KVMpng

I hope with this blog I can inspire you to revisit some of your old works and see how much you've improved! Always work towards learning new skills, and don't worry if there are people who are better than you. In real life there will always be someone who is better than you, but that doesn't mean you should ever feel discouraged.

For those who like my Rugged Photographer skin:

You have inspired me to never give up on skinning! This is really what I needed to realize that everybody stars out on the same level, but the ones who never give up rise from noob to legend! Thanks soup!! :)

This tells people that if they think their skins suck, they may get so much better later, they shouldn't give up.

Oh God...Looking at my first skins is like looking through a horrible family album of embarrassing childhood photos ("Rihanna skin"...Really? /facepalm)

But your skins are great and you've improved a lot! Good job! :]
Tell me about it. I just started. Everyone thinks I am a noob and stole a skin when all of mine are original. Ticks me off so much.Ã
Yeah...that happened to me too once. Do you want to be friends and work on sort of skin packs together? I'm new too!
Sure! I like your stuff. You should find a way to shade, though.
Yeah, my newest skin is shaded but I my dad won't let me download the software so I just hand shade.
Meh, that sucks.
I know. Well, I've been doing preety good without it.

I prefer myself as a noob, but I improve very much on my skins. I try different shading styles and I am currently working with colors picked by hand and transparency for highlights and the skin.

Thanks! and also the thing about shading and better skins is the detail I guess thats really what has me worried about excelling in skinning is the detail right now Im making or attempting my first shaded human the skin is what has got me worried im working on the shirt right thoe and 1 component color just shaded is easier like my other skin thats shaded 2 component colors just shaded so it was easier but the detail is 3-10 component colors!

I'm still a noob
I think the first skin is cute, in a rugged fantasy-like way. No, not the character (who is your bf?), but the whole... >.> ........ hm... character. By that I mean how they look and would probably act with that skin... Arg can't out it into words... -_-
Yeah, I can also see my improvement, I almost gave up on skinning. But I kept trying and now I am A LOT better than where I started! And the person who inspired me was King_of_Craft. Without him I would have gave up on skinning...

I personally like the first skin better. I like "little bit" of shading. Seeing as you haven't come to the "obsession of over shading" yet, you ma'am are a great skinner.

The problem with being a newb in Minecraft... is that it doesn't last forever. You can't explain anything, it just happens. You always find something new, you don't know how to craft something. It's a time full of speculation and wonder of what you will find the next time you venture out of your little dirt cottage.

This is kinda how I relate, minus the jealousy. I used to think I was really bad at building, knowing I was, so I never really bothered to post anything until two days ago. My first upload got onto the popular reel in projects, and is still there with around 30 diamonds. This defenitely told me I had improved much more than I ever thought, and now, my confidence level went from 3 to 7! x3
Im still a noob at making thigs like texture packs and skins but minecraft? way diffrent story i changed a lot!
