Heyoooo! ^_^
So today I decided to make a blog on what makes a good skin good! I know I've made a blog before about what makes a skin bad, but instead of that I'm focusing on the positive things.
This is completely my opinion. If you're happy not doing something this way, then by all means do it! I'm not here to tell you what to do. :]
1. Shading
I believe that every good skin should be shaded. This is because shading adds dimension to it, and makes it more 3D looking. It's not compulsory, but a lot of people will judge you/your skin because of the shading. It's just how the world works. People judge you for minor things like this, sadly. If you'd like me to make a shading tutorial, I'll make one. Give this a diamond if you want a tutorial.
2. Is it original?
Now I get that a lot of people have a problem with this. To be honest, I often end up making my skins look too generic myself! I like to make my skins look quite general so that a lot of people can use it. However, this isn't always the best approach to take. It's important to make original skins. It's really important! Make something which expresses something you or a lot of people like, depending if you're doing this for the views/downloads or just because you enjoy skin making.
3. Colours!
Make sure your skins are nice and bright! But when I say bright, I don't really mean rainbow colours and whatnot. I mean colours which match eachother, contrast against eachother or blend together. Make a nice balance of colour but make sure it stands out from the crowd! Plus, it's nice to see skins with 'hue shifting'. It adds a unique and pretty twist to skins, as well as adding dimension!
4. Detail
For me, skins should be nice and detailed. Make sure the colours you have chosen define something. For example, I said that you should sometimes make the colours blend together. This is not the case when it comes to the hair and the back of the clothes. Can you imagine how silly it'd look if you had the hair blending in with the clothes so much than you can't even tell the difference between the two? Yeah. Pretty silly!
In the end, it's important to make skins which you enjoy making and think look good. Who cares about the views? It's about the quality, not content! Just have fun making skins!
