The glistening sun appears
through the white covered leaves.
Sunlight traveling, rays shining on
the pack of wolves.
Cuddled together, the mother keeping
warmth for the cubs like a blanket.
The bristling of the bush alerted
her, a rifle barrel stuck out from the leaves.
The mother wolf slowly getting up,
walking towards this unknown mechanism.
But before she can inspect it,
a blast, smoke arising from the barrel.
Bullet splitting into her skull,
collapsing to the snow beneath her.
The blood sinking into the snow,
laying motionless, lifeless.
The barrel of the hunter's gun,
sinking back behind the bush.
Disappearing into the woods,
as the cubs are left to die.
Flooding up inside
like a clogged toilet.
The cubs start to whimper,
trying to push up their dead mother's body.
They start to cuddle up against her,
they didn't want to be alone.
Slowly drifting off to slumber,
to stay with their sorrows.
Unable to fight for themselves,
defenseless without their mother, rotting.
Their heart and warmth will comfort them,
in this hateful world.
