When 1.16 rolled out, I was excited for the newly introduced ancient debris and netherite. Netherite blocks look epic, yet are quite time consuming in accumulating enough ancient debris to make this block viable for building. Although the challenge may be the fun in it, it simply isn't viable for some players on a time crunch. Now, with the technology introduced in 1.18, I had some ideas. At first, I intended to resolve this idea using pseudo-ore veins, but I simply won't have the time to learn how to make them + balance their presence in the game. Then, I realized geodes were the next best thing! Good luck and happy mining!

I have currently confirmed this pack's functionality in 1.19.x through 1.21. It does not work on prior versions.

This datapack is also compatible with Stardust Labs' Amplified Nether.

    The lore aspect:
The ancient societies of the Nether consisted of master craftsmen and artisans of netherite. The great abundance of the material allowed even greater opportunities, but it was highly coveted by many. Entire societies stockpiled netherite to ensure their economic, military, and artisanal success. However, much of the world's netherite was lost to time as the metals corroded in the Nether's harsh atmosphere, lacking individuals to preserve them after the Great Societal Collapse. Other reserves were preserved or looted by contemporary piglins, further protected within their bastion remnants.

However, within the Nether's most volatile landscapes, some ancient reserves find a hospitable environment. Buried deep and locked away from the Nether's atmosphere, some blocks of netherite remain pristine within what was once a building, now eroded and fused by volcanic lava.

Where to find the ancient reserves:
Ancient reserves spawn below [approximately] y=27 in the Basalt Deltas. If the biome is relatively big, you might be lucky enough to find at least one!

    Is this even balanced?
I will admit, I found so much ancient debris in these ancient reserves that I thought twice about reducing the average size. Combined with the slight amount of netherite blocks, I typically found enough to make up to 50 blocks at one point. However, that is one of the largest reserves. Average sized ones down to the smallest will yield less while still being a good return on investment.

My reasoning to balance this feature while also not undermining the conventional methods entirely is that these spawn in the Basalt Deltas very infrequently. In combination with only spawning in one biome, they have a 1/324 chance to spawn per chunk. Some Basalt Deltas might not even have one! You can change this manually by navigating to ~Ancient Reserves/data/tbm_ancientreserves/worldgen/placed_feature/debris_reserve,
and adjusting the "chance": value (higher being more rare).

Basalt Deltas also have quite a bit of lava within the ground. There are plenty of lava caves, and even more undersea craters of lava. Perhaps you'll need to get more creative than tnt tunnel bores to find these. Again, good luck and happy mining!

Yes, there is a way to change the size of the geode. In the configured_feature file (~Ancient Reserves/data/tbm_ancientreserves/worldgen/configured_feature/debris_reserve.json), there is a field named "layers." In that field are four float values that determine the maximum radius of each layer. You can reduce those numbers as you like.

So can I find these reserves using the /locate structure command, similar to how I can find geodes or mineshafts in the overworld? If so, what's the structure name I should enter into the command?

Because the reserves utilize Minecraft’s feature system rather than its structure system, you cannot use /locate to find them. However, you could use /place feature tbm_ancient_reserves:debris_reserves in a basalt deltas below y27 to spawn one artificially.

Would this create any problems if i added it to an already existing world?

No, it shouldn't cause any issues in a pre-existing world. You will have to look even farther for new chunks to find them though.
