It is real easy for me to add more types of bees. Just leave a comment and I will try to keep updates for requests.

***If you are updating from an older version, default mode is easy and the max level of bee that will work is LVL03. Change mode to "Hard Mode" to be able to use LVL05 bees again or "Medium Mode" if your bees are level 5 and in tier 3.***

Place a bee hive and jump on top to place the data pack functions on that hive. The bee hive will be labeled "Bee Hive"

Hold a Oak Log in your off hand to breed two bees together to create a Oak_LVL01 bee.

Breed the bees away from lower levels of bees to increase the level of the next baby bee. If there is a bee 1 level below and less than 6 blocks away, then you wont get the next level of bee.

When the hive is a max level hive then the hive will produce it's product. The item will drop from the hive on to the ground so place a hopper under the hive to catch the item.

The hive will change to the level of the bee in the first data slot of the NBT data in the hive block. Any bees that are in slots 2 and 3 will change to the same level of the first bee in the hive. So separate your new bees.

Higher tier bees will need to be breed from two different max level bees. Example is an iron ingot bee will be breed from a max level Oak and a max level Cobblestone bee while holding a iron ingot in your off hand. Level your bees all the way up to diamond by cross breeding max level bees.

i've had my gravel bees turn into oak bees, will there be a fix for this? my hives are a few blocks apart and sometimes the bees go into hives that arent theirs. any way you can make it so that bees can't go into neighboring hives?

For those running this on a server. If you want your area and animals protected from damage from other people, I suggest getting my other data pack as well. Players can still use gates and leads to kidnap your bees so you will have to fence in your animals completely. They just can't damage blocks or animals within your claim.

great datapack, thanks for putting in the time for this. i just went through leveling up 1 through 5 and i have to say that its really mind numbing waiting for the bees to be able to breed again. im sure you know this but ~30 mins just to get to the next level bee - it's just too long if i have to do this 5 times from level 1 to 5. perhaps lowering the minimum level to produce resources/being able to crossbreed would be a more fair compensation of the time put in. or maybe an item to speed up the process of leveling up bees faster. would love to see this datapack become more polished

Update with "Easy Mode" as default mode, max bee level required is 3 and better yet... Your suggested tiered system as a "Medium Mode". The mode can be changed by an Admin.

Would lowering the max level from 5 to 3 be ok? I wanted it very hard and time consuming to keep high level tiers out of the game until very late into the game. I wanted it to be very rare to have or see a Diamond_LVL05 bee on a sever raise by another player.

you could maybe set the max levels for each item according to an item's rarity. for an example, a log bee's max level would be 3 while a diamond bee's max level would be 5.

tier 1 resources would have a max level 3 with the resources being wood, cobble, gravel etc.
tier 2 would have max level 4 with iron, coal, gold etc.
tier 3 would have max level 5 with diamond, elytra, shulker etc.

while i do agree something rare and valuable should take more time, it might take TOO much time. i personally use villager breeders, iron golem farms, and set up a villager trading area where i can trade for diamond tools and armor. the amount of time and effort in setting up these things compared to waiting for bees to be able to breed from oak to diamond as of now, i would very much prefer setting up these other farms than waiting for the bees. i would like to see bees become a good equal alternative to building and creating villager farms.

you have a great unique datapack it's like an actual mod. for now, maybe just separate items into tiers. thanks for the hard work!

I agree with you. I am currently moving everything to 3 levels max. I do like your tiered idea lots. I'm thinking of letting the server admin pick if they want it 3 levels, or 3-5 levels or locked at 5 levels max using a trigger command to change the settings in chat. Like an easy, medium, or hard setting.

you should include a resource pack when optifine comes out that customizes the bee textures based on what bee it is

I mean this is actually a semi-cool version of the magical bees mod, which is famously tedious and bashed, maybe make naturally generated bees have a chance to convert to things like mid-tier or low-tier bees? Other inspiration from the mod; food items or recipes, or things like auto-breeders/processing methods to separate/recycle bees?

What about potion bees? I would’ve thought of:

Bee of healing (gives Potion of Instant Health)
Hold in hand an Arrow of Instant Health

Bee of damage (gives Potion of Instant Damage)
Hold in hand an Arrow of Instant Damage

All the negative potion bees would be bred from 2 Bees of damage while holding the required item used in the brewing stand whereas the positive potion bees would be bred from 2 Bees of healing while holding the required item on the brewing stand.

Maybe it’s a complicated update, but it would be pretty cool to see massive AFK regeneration potion farms.

I am unable to summon a potion as an item entity like I do the rest of the items under a hive. The potion instantly breaks open releasing it's effects.

Two commands I tried:

summon minecraft:potion ~ ~2 ~ {Potion:{id:"minecraft:potion",Count:1b,tag:{Potion:"minecraft:strong_healing"}}}
summon minecraft:item ~ ~2 ~ {Potion:{id:"minecraft:potion",Count:1b,tag:{Potion:"minecraft:strong_healing"}}}

I added the brewing ingredients bees. I'm going to make them more of a progression off of the other bees to make it more interesting to unlock them.

why'd you go off of the name you could have used tags
01/05/2020 1:18 am
Level 34 : Artisan Miner
Both ways work, I thought of names first and evolved from there. I wanted to visually see the bee type and hive type so I kept the naming system. I had no plans on how to do this, so I just started building until the commands worked.

Multiple times I was at a stand still not knowing how to accomplish what I wanted to do. I just remember playing the Forestry - Bee Keeping mod and wanted to have a way to get items from bees. I am still learning and tags are not my strong suit. I love learning new things and tinkering with data packs. I almost got in over my head with this one.

I spent weeks looking for a data pack to bring back the enjoyment of playing with bees. I couldn't find one so I started to create one. I just love how Forestry - Bee Keeping MOD is built around cross-breeding and finding rare bees. I do not have the talent yet to pull something off as well as they did.

I hope this pack inspires someone to make something better than what I can do. If there is someone out there that can make bees fun and exciting please do so, even if it means stealing my idea. I would love to see what the community can offer us beekeepers such as bee suits, smokers, mite control, grafting/raising queens, disease treatments, and more!
