    Overview

Please note: If you upgrade this datapack from 1.19 or below to 1.20, the textures from the old items don't work anymore. This is happening because the CustomModelData of all items have changed, making my datapacks more compatible with datapacks from other creators.
Survival Upgrades is a Datapack for Minecraft 1.17 to 1.21. It adds new items to the game, called Survival Upgrades. These make the game easier or harder by making you move slower or faster, changing your maximum HP, raising your attack damage and more. You can get Upgrades by doing things like breaking tools, running kilometers or killing mobs.
Watch out! Survival Upgrades in 1.17 has a negative consequence after updating to 1.18 or higher. Because 1.17 makes use from the dungeon and stronghold loot table, it doesn't change the loot for 1.18. That makes you unable to find the Otherside Music Disc with this Datapack installed from 1.17.
If you combine Survival Upgrades with Player Mobs in 1.17 or 1.18, the Fleru Boss Player Mob will drop a +1 HP Survival Upgrade.

    +1 Experience

+1 Experience gives you more experience. For example, an experience orb with a value of 1 will be raised to 2. With +4 Experience, an experience orb with a value of 5 will be raised to 13. To get a +1 Experience Survival Upgrade, you have to kill mobs or bosses. Just like with +1 Attack Damage, it has a 0.5% chance of dropping one for normal mobs, while a Boss has a 20% chance of dropping one. There is no Survival Upgrade to lower experience and there is a maximum of +5 Experience.

    Reset

If you decide to reset all Survival Upgrades, whether if it's because you equipped too many bad upgrades or because you're getting bored, you can throw all Survival Upgrades on the ground to get a Reset Upgrades item:
    • + + + + + + + + =
    • Reset Upgrades

All Survival Upgrades will be reset when used and you can start over.

If you decide to reset all the Survival Upgrades, whether it is because you have too many bad ones or because it's starting to get boring, you can write the following command in the chat:
    • /function survival_upgrades:reset

All Survival Upgrades will be reset and you can start all over again.

    History

    1.17
    Survival Upgrades created

    1.18
You will now receive Luck and Health Survival Upgrades by running around instead of from Dungeon or Stronghold chests.

    1.20
Added the Saturation +1 Survival Upgrade.
    Added Reset Upgrades.
Optimised code for activating a Survival Upgrade.

    1.21

Random number generators are now using predicates.

    Minor performance improvements.

    Trivia

An idea was that there would be a 50% chance that a negative Survival Upgrade would be used automatically when it entered your inventory. This was eventually scrapped because it would be to hard to implement.
Until 1.18, Fleru from the Player Mobs Datapack would drop a +1 HP Survival Upgrade upon death. This feature was added before Survival Upgrades existed, so there was no way to get this upgrade in Minecraft 1.16.
This is the first Datapack to come out after 1.16.

Is there a way to change the drop rates for these?

Only by diving into the code itself. It can be very handy to do that, so I might add that in a future version. Thanks for your comment!
