Below the surface, below the stone, below even the bedrock lies the deepest layer of the Overworld known as The Foundation. Down below -64, The Foundation contains several locations lost to time, now a soulless wasteland.

There's still a bedrock layer at -64, but there are Chasms that carve straight through it. To find one, look for a Chasm Growths on the surface. They are clearly defined through their crimson floor and alien plants growing dozens of blocks up. Below these (at about -40 to -55) are Chasms, which cut all the way down to -80. Down in the Foundation, there are four biomes for you to discover. Will you find them all?

If you simply want to see everything the pack has to offer, check out the seed -1776455503. It has a Chasm Growths right next to spawn, with all four of the custom Foundation biomes a short distance away from the chasm entrance.

NOTE: This pack is best enjoyed without fullbright or shaders.

it broke in 1.20.3, this was a project solely for a datapack jam and I don't intend on updating it

if anyone wants to use this in 1.20.4 unzip the pack, go to data\foundation\tags\blocks\everything_but_lava.json, and replace minecraft:grass (NOT minecraft:grass_block) with minecraft:short_grass

So I'm not sure how to fix this, but for some reason when I teleport myself to the foundation chasm and/or base, I just end up falling through the world endlessly to my death. I got some console errors along the lines of "Ignoring heightmap data for chunk [170, -248], size does not match; expected: 43, got: 37" for a significant amount of chunks, I'm not sure if it's related to this mod or not though.

This is easily one of if not my favorite worldgen datapack I've seen in a good while-- the design philosophy of keeping bedrock but generating these massive openings into a dead, forgotten landscape beneath is just SO cool, and it makes my speculation-loving brain go wild with thoughts about what these caves really are. Absolutely love this, and I really hope it keeps being updated!
