Zelda Clawshot V1.2
For Minecraft 1.15.2 to 1.16.1!

The Zelda Clawshot datapack adds a new item to the game, the Clawshot. The Clawshot shoots out a hook that can latch on to any wooden blocks. It will then pull the player to the block and hold them there. Two Clawshots can be used at the same time, one in both hands. This allows you to alternate between the two without ever needing to touch the ground.

So, how does this pack work?

The pack runs a ray trace of where you are looking. It then generates the chain in front of you, which the player will get pulled by if the end of the chain hits a wooden block. If it hits an item, it will pull that item back to the player. If a mob is hit, it will take a small amount of damage and be stunned for a short time. If a non-wooden block is hit, it will bounce off and return to the player. Once pulled, you are held in the air until you deselect the item or press shift.

To install, follow the instructions contained in the “instructions.txt” file included in the download. If you are still having issues installing or want help knowing how to do something with the pack, ask for help on our discord.

you can't use a claw shot in your left hand unless you have one in your right hand. besides that, it works great, this is one of the best datapacks I've ever seen.

Nope, the library is just installed exactly like a normal datapack. It just exist as a performance thing.

I am using this with mods and it surprised me when it worked with Biomes O' Plenty leaves and wood variants. Keep up the good work!

Wow, that surprises me as well xD

Sounds like Biomes O' Plenty did a good job with their mod then. This pack references the "minecraft:logs" tag, so I guess Biomes adds to that tag which is really cool.

Can you make it so that if there is an air block above the block that you are clinging to with the clawshot than if you jump then you tp to that air block?

I've played Zelda since the first game, this is absolutely amazing! I like the wood-only rule, as it is in Ocarina of Time. If to be used in an adventure map, do I need your allowance for it? I'd love to make a dungeon with the hook as a treasure.

A second question, I have so much things I want to do, but I sadly never dove into redstone/command part of Minecraft, or any customizing you can do, such as mobs and items like this one you've made. Where is a good place to start at?

1. Yes, you can absolutely use this for an adventure map. It has built-in credits, so just don't remove the credits.

2. I would suggest when getting started to do a lot of reading of the wiki. Specifically this page: https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Commands

Also, MCstacker is a really useful tool for doing some complex stuff. It is a command generator that can help you with the NBT data.

I love the idea of these data packs of yours! Haven't even tried it out yet and I'm in love. <3

I'm helping contribute to a Zelda-themed adventure map, which is why I started looking at your stuff. We'd like to add a couple packs to the map and thought to ask you first. Our favorite is the rupee system. What do you say?

Yeah, absolutely. The rupee system was specifically made for map makers like yourself.
All the other packs are also allowed, just leave in our automatic credit system.

Hook looks really interest. But that's so slow i think.

Why Mojang doesn't want add motion commands for player :/

Yeah, I really wish we could modify the player's NBT data (which would allow for motion modification as well). Unfortunately, there is a fair amount of data that would be really bad if you edited it (Such as UUIDs). Maybe someday they will let us access some of the data, but not all of it.

The speed of the Clawshot is based on the Zelda speed, which is fairly slow.

My fault, i'm not played any zelda)

But for minecaft i think really strange "balance" You can't use it on caves cos it not grabs stone. and you frozen on one place when hook flies. If you want use it for escape or wander the caves, that's not the best choise

About NBT's, im think mojang can give acsess to motion and health ant some atributes like max heallth, speed. But they so lazy :(

Well, you could use it in caves if you add wooden blocks, so a bit of prep would be needed.

As for balance, I never really considered that, as I was just attempting to bring something into the game.

I might add a setting to it to toggle requiring a wooden block.
