How to get Java for free
Alrigyt... I have a younger frined who wants to join my java server. Only problem is that he has bedrock. I've been trying to help him redeem java for free, but I have no clue how to do this. I've searched tutiorials and minecraft.net help pages , but I've found nothing.
I don't know what microsft account his game is on, but he says that whenever he tryes to play java, it only gives him the option for the demo version. Any help on how a bedrock player can get java for free would help
I don't know if his microsoft account is the same as his brother's, but if that were the case, he'd be able to play.

There's a plugin that you can install on your server and he can join the java server from his bedrock game.

Yeah, that's looking like the next course of action before I suggest he buys the game again.
Its not free. You have to pay for the Java version of the game. It may suck to own two copies but the alternative is piracy.

Mojang didn't lie. They were talking about Windows 10 edition, which is a version of bedrock. I'm guessing that your friend plays Minecraft on a console, in which case, they wouldn't get this bonus.
He plays on PC, but he's on a family account.

then try downloading java

Do you have the new launcher?
Make sure you are signed into the launcher and click the java icon on the side bar.
Then click play and if you are signed in it will ask you to choose a username.
