Basic Contest Theme Concept:
Love comes in many forms and we'll accept poetry about any type of love! Food, pets, hobbies, scents, colors, or seasons are a few examples of what you could create your love poem about.Sweep us off our feet with your word wizardry. Make us laugh. The tone you set is up to you.
Your poem does not have to rhyme! It can be any type of poem including Haiku, Sonnet, Limerick, Acrostic, and Free Verse. If you're a poetry connoisseur you know that there are several types of poems, these are just examples. You can check out this resource for a more in-depth explanation of what the top 10 Types of Poems are.
Include in your submission any additional art, photos, or music you feel would complement your poem.

heyo im doing a contest with my sis so ima make my poem better. BC HERS ISNT EVEN ABT LOVE. Kindness keeps the world afloat. Kindness can be a person's boat Kindness is like a boomarang. Do good and you might just get the favor yourself in return. Kindness is AMAZING Once in a while try helping a friend. Or carry some stuff to the sidewalk end. Its not just you who might need help. Because some people cant even eat kelp! So try giving out some food or maybe money. Either will do! Just remember ITS NOT JUST YOU! and we all know kindness matters too now ima post it on the page instead of comment byeeee

My name is love
I can be the greatest
and I can be the worst
You will find me everywhere you go in your life
your family, children and maybe your wife
I am more than just a feeling
People say I am the greatest for a human-being
The humans say it is love that keeps them together
The animals say it is passion that keeps them together
And the darkness says it is the hate that keeps it alone forever

In the walled garden, surrounded by cold marble
and rows of sanctioned lime trees, I grow
defenseless against desire—I almost touch
myself remembering your scent, time zones away,
clean first, then that sourness
after sex. My eye is a slow thief, it stops
for so little: under the orange tree, a young woman
lifts from her lover’s hair a praying mantis,
its green intelligence like calligraphy
on her hand. Children scream, a man wipes
oil with bread—people still go to lunch
within a war, can you believe it?
It is here I understand I am free, I am perpetual,
because it is you who hungers me.

i did it about love- about my lost love when i broke up with my girlfriend awhile ago -w-;;;, hope that helps?? -w-;;, i mean it's still love- and i can tack on something about my love of cats to my entry-

One way to look at it is a keyword outline. So use keywords for the theme you want a poem to convey. Get a rough draft down, refine it, revamp. Terms such as hyperbole, simile, metaphor, and imagery are good ones to know, and there's a lot more out there if it interests you. From my experience poems are largely personal, so maybe think of something you're passionate about or want to let out, and go from there.
Thesauruses and rhyme finders can help too! Also, I would recommend reading poems people have written. Rubs off on you.
Of course, if you don't enjoy the process there's not much point, but you might as well give it a go! Best of luck :)

Of course I know all that, but English is not my native language and writing in a literary style is really complicated for me, while I’m a good writer in my mother language which is French ;)

Try making it first in your native language. When happy with it, throw it through a translator. Double check it yourself or try using an add-on in your browser such as grammarly.com (not tested myself). Add some self-made art in the background & I think you'll do just fine
