ah- I actually did this semi-recently
in my opinion, the easiest way to do it is using the novaskin editor. if you're on pc (it's much harder to do it on mobile), upload your skin to the first layer, then add a second layer and upload your base to that one. then you can press "save" on the top right and download the file.

note: i do recommend, that if your skin is already finished, that you remove everything you don't want clashing with the base in the skindex or pmc editor before trying to combine them.

I used Edge for several years, it wasn't until they started making it so obnoxious that I bit the bullet and switched to Vivaldi. Took a fair amount of customization to get it to where I wanted, but it's amazing now.

Edge isn't horrible though, it definitely worked for me for a while.
