tldr discord is deleting images after a while to free up storage space

what’s happening?
many images around PMC (wall posts, descriptions, profile pages) which are hosted on Discord are refusing to load, visiting the image URL returns an error.

what is causing it?
Discord doesn’t like it when you host images with them, so they’re creating a new system where images sent on Discord will be removed after a long period of time from Discord’s servers - there’s nothing we can do about it. it’s really inconvenient but PMC can do nothing about it, as it’s Discord who are hosting the image, and PMC is just displaying it from the image URL.

alternatives for image hosting
- if you’re up for a challenge, you could host your images through GitHub
- imgur is easy-to-use and doesn’t need logging in
- imgbb also exists
- Tixte is my favourite - you can upload images/videos/more and host them with a custom subdomain, with 15gb of storage space

its annoiyng, but PMC can’t do anything about it, and Discord ain’t gonna budge either.

I didn’t make this as a place for arguments to happen ! if it bothers this bothers u, u can dm me (or scroll) and we can discuss it there (but ONLY if u have a respectful intent) DISCLAIMER I am not in any way promoting the use of drugs !!!

over the years my view on drug use has changed tremendously - I used to think that using drugs was one of worst things someone could do to themselves, “why would someone do that?!” and I genuinely couldn’t find a reason why someone would want to. but as I’ve gotten older, and seen how the world can be such a horrible place, I’ve realized some things. for one, the human mind will always be curious. whether this be for better or for worse; we’re bound to be curious and to want to explore the unknown. that’s most definitely one of the reasons ppl try drugs. another reason ppl may try them is bc they hear it’s an ‘escape’. they want out, a way to leave reality. some ppl do it to focus on the temporary relief the drugs may supply rather than the pain in their lives. addiction may be a way that they can distract themselves. there are a variety of different reasons someone may try/do drugs. and I’ve decided it’s best not to judge someone for it, but rather be there for them. I used to do everything to avoid ppl who used drugs (of any kind). I did this not out of worry that I would be peer pressured/that I’d become addicted, but out of fear/disgust. society makes drug users out to be such horrible people… when in reality, they are just like any other being. struggling like any other being, in need of help like any other being, just trying to get by like any other being. so I’m here to say, be there for those who are struggling, whether you know why are not. whether they are getting the help they need or not. whether they hope via ways mentioned above or not. and encourage them to continue to fight towards happiness, and success in life. because eventually, one day, it will improve. 💗
