Since you didn't say anything, then i will assume that this is what you did to get the caves and cliffs achievement without water: You built a platform with the minimum height required to complete the achievement *plus a hole / big hole where to fall into and get the achievement*, you equipped a full set of diamond armor and enchanted your chest plate with protection, and your boots with feather falling, then you consumed a potion of the turtle master, and used the haybales as a backup. And that way, you were able to get the caves and cliffs achievement without water

In that case, since you also didn't used lava nor fire resistance, then you probably used protection on your chest plate plus the feather falling and turtle master, plus falling from the minimum height required, and the haybales as a backup, to get the achievement

Then... If you didn't used water nor a totem nor snow nor powder snow nor twisting vines nor honeycomb blocks nor slime blocks nor cobwebs nor a mace nor sweet berries nor a ladder nor scaffolding nor protection 4 nor a happy ghast nor a horse nor a boat nor slow falling nor a bed nor vines nor enchanted golden apple nor a beacon nor a regular golden apple nor blast protection, and you used feather falling, turtle master and haybales as a backup... Then, you might have used lava plus a fire resistance potion. And, while that doesn't make sense, here's what i thought: If you place lava in a block higher than the platform you fall into, and make the lava fall all the way to that platform, then, with the fire resistance potion, you would be able to slow your falling down, and survive... I think
