The Buzzard-Class Heavy Starfighter is one of the most deadly ships employed in the U.N.A.F.'s smaller classes. It entered manufacture shortly after its sister ship, the Dart, in C.E. 2348.

The Buzzard is most famous for its high speed, high maneuverability, and deadly depleted uranium cannon. While the area of impact for this weapon is relatively low when compared to those used by larger ships, the Buzzard Gun, as it has come to be commonly known, can shred through all but the most impenetrable armor, punching holes several meters wide through enemy frigates and carriers. An especially skilled pilot can use the combined effect of the armor piercing rounds and the high fire rate of the gun to cleanly carve large opposing ships in half.

While the Buzzard seems to be the perfect starfighter on paper, its massive combat power is often bottlenecked by logistics. Depleted uranium shell cannons are usually reserved for the larger classes of ships in the U.N.A.F., and shrinking the technology necessary to make these weapons deadly in ship-to-ship combat makes the Buzzard very expensive to manufacture. Additionally, the Buzzard is much more difficult to pilot and significantly larger than the Dart, making the latter the more convenient starfighter for universal training and mass storage within limited hangar space.

Author's Note
The "Depleted Uranium Shells" spawn a few meters (blocks) in front of the muzzle. This is to circumvent an issue where, if you travel too far in the direction of the projectiles while the weapon is firing, it causes explosions to occur at the spawn point of the "shells." I do not know the cause of this issue, but spawning the projectiles a few blocks in front of the muzzle avoids the explosions damaging the structure of the ship.
