This project has been discontinued. Due to some issues you may discover within the world if you travel from the city, as well as i was having difficulty with the landscape of the city itself, and i seemed to have built myself into a corner with this project by trying to retain the original landscape with a reworking of the city. It just wasn't working for me, so i am no longer working on this. For that reason, i am putting up a download for you to explore what i had been working on. I have plans for a new city, which will use many of the buildings here and more, and will be more planned out and organized, which will be released sometime in the future.

Additional Notes

Here i will be posting the current progress of the city:

Progress: Currently, i have over 100 buildings either finished or in construction. I have ceased construction on this city, but the incomplete buildings will be transferred to the new city. Due to the halt in construction, i ask that if you want to offer your opinion on the build, you understand that i will no longer work on this, but i will take your opinions into consideration for my future projects.

Note: right now, some of the images are from the original city project, though a majority of the buildings will be in the same place.
Progress: 30% Complete

Update #7 : 09/01/2014 1:44:40 am9/01/14

Added a few more buildings as well as removed the last of the placeholder buildings i had from the previous project. i have also halted construction and abandoned this project, as i will be working on other things.

Update #6 : 03/08/2014 6:28:06 pm3/08/14

Added 13 new buildings to both the New Quarter and the South Peninsula district. Also began the Olympic village and used world painter to prepare for the Old Quarter. Most of the vegetation has been cleared. Once the New Quarter is finished, this is where my focus will be shifted

Update #5 : 01/31/2014 10:11:28 am1/31/14

I have added 11 buildings since the last update to the New Quarter and South Peninsula district. Though not shown, i have been working in Worldedit to begin preparing the landscape to begin planning the Old Quarter (which will require bridges and extension of the transportation system, though most of this will be added after New Quarter is finished and a world download is posted).

Update #4 : 12/25/2013 10:33:42 pm12/25/13

I have continued to shore up the river as well as built up about 5 new buildings in the New Quarter. Also explored the map a little more in preparation to begin building in the Old Quarter (which is a hilly area to the south and southeast of the New Quarter). you can also clearly see the Lighthouse Tower and the bridge connecting it to the North District.

Update #3 : 12/22/2013 7:46:36 pm12/22/13

I have done some shoring of the river as well as begun construction on a few new towers and finished the Concert Hall. I have dedicated the areas around the South District for a Music Center, creating theatres and pavilions around the towers. This may involve some moving of buildings, so expect the South District to change a bit.

Update #2 : 11/22/2013 8:14:32 pm11/22/13

The river has been fully drawn out, and only needs the sides to be shored up (will do this after the New Quarter is finished). There is a small river that cuts south linking with a natural river further south. This will define the Old Quarter, which is a bit mountainous. I have placed all current buildings as of today. Now that the New Quarter has been fully defined (meaning its landmass), i now know exactly how much area i need to build up.

Update #1 : 11/06/2013 3:52:13 pm11/06/13

The river dividing the old quarter and the new quarter is currently being built. You can see in the Skyscraper project that was recently added the condition at the river on the south end of the city. Also, i have begun to remove buildings that are not original, and will be replacing them with my own buildings. Once every building has been replaced, i will post the city file

I know, but this project has taught me a lot about how to plan a city, and my next one should be significantly better. A lot of the buildings you see here (and many more to come) will be used in the new city once i finish the landscaping.

That sounds really promising! I know you'll do an awesome job! Just curious; are you using world painter to terraform your next city of trying to go with the in-game terrain again?

I'm using world painter so I can lower the land and have a higher ceiling. I now have 229m to play with rather than 192m. Still working out all of the landscaping, but I have starte, again, like with all of my cities, beginning with the spire towers

Ah well I can understand the idea of starting all over instead of making more work of correcting the old one.

Anyway it is nice to explore the city and take a look around all the buildings, which is can be quite inspiring as I still plan to make myself once a skyscraper. Although I have the main idea´s behind I still need to finish one other monster project of mine...

As looking through the map I hope you will do something on the followning:
- Empty floors, just looking from one side to another one isn´t realistic or nice to see. So I suggest, like on the pmc contest to use structure cores with elevators shafts and the stairs. Maybe add some walls inside and some other columss, I think it will look better in the end.
- Infrastructure. I do understand that you focus more on the skyscrapers and not so much on the roads and such, but I do noticed the railway. I haven´t tried it out with a minecart but can´t you make it more bigger so you have a rail infrastructure (that works with a minecart for travel) instead of a road structural.

As last, it is up to you what you do but why don´t you give your next city not a name?

These are some good suggestions. The empty floors thing, a majority of the buildings here are over a year old if not older, and i wasn't as good of a builder then. I am also only one person, so furnishing each floor would have taken me forever, and i'm not the most patient of people when it comes to my building projects.

For the infrastructure, for the new city, i want to keep it limited to usable infrastructure, so i will be utilizing streets for walking/riding horses (though more designed than just a simple pathway), minecart rail, and in certain areas, canals. If you explore the railways in this city, there is a start of an underground, though i didn't make the stations, and there is a ring that was dismantled in one area that i was working on, but i can't remember if i replaced the pieces or not. I was focused somewhere else. But i plan to do a similar system in the new city.

And as far as a name goes, i just couldn't think of something that could fit this one. I will need a name for the next one for sure, and i'm thinking of some.

Skyscrapers are often good to MC-edit, so one floor doing the layout with stairs and shaft. Then mc-edit towards designated area and make the exterior towards your liking. Although some skyscrapers aren´t really mc-edit-able but still.

Don´t forget the random patterns of piggie-back riding ;)
I am curious how the canals are going to work out. The underground I haven´t really explored but I did noticed the underwater railway. Little funfact; London, new metro line. Space window of a certain spot: 15cm (~6inches) upwards or else hitting a stairshaft. Down 30cm(~12inch/~1feet) or 45cm(~18inch/1feet6) window otherwise hitting the exisiting metro line.

i don't see a reason to make streets for cars if there aren't any cars. The only way to get around the city in game is by either minecart, horse, or on foot. I don't see the need to build infrastructure for something that doesn't exist

Yes you are totally right, but making imaginary infrestrcutures like roads and highays, or ports, or even airports, it is just to add realism to a city. Your city anyway is pretty good and I love it :)

Well thank you. I will consider adding a port, as i can always make a few ships, and i may make an airport, if i have the space to do so. I plan on making it resemble Zurich's airport (though i may give this another purpose). Though this is just my opinion, i do not find cars built in minecraft that good looking, and they cannot be used, so i will not create an infrastructure for them (while ships and airplanes can't be used either, they are large enough to make them detailed, and thus can serve a purpose to me)
