This medieval castle is built from pictures and maps of Chateau de Chillon or Chillon Castle in Switzerland. It is not a 1:1 reproduction but an attempt to give the flavor of this authentic medieval castle.
The castle lies on a rock outcropping along the shores of Lake Geneva and has two faces. The front of the castle is a fortress while because of the natural defenses of the lake, the rear of the castle was built as a luxurious residence. The residential areas are themselves split, separated by walls and courtyards.
The upper part, opposite the entrance, is reserved for the prince and his court, temporary guests of the castle.
The bottom, around the first two courses, is assigned to the bailiff, lord and staff installed the year.
The castle has many interesting features, notably the abundance of latrines (early W.C.s) for the period and the availability of fresh water. The latrines are the bump outs along the lakesides of the castle.
