A reconstruction of a Mayan temple, located in Tikal, Guatemala. This temple, known as Temple I, or Temple of the Jaguar, is one of six large pyramids in the city of Tikal. The temple was constructed around 732 A.D, and was part of a large acropolis, with many other pyramids and temples. After the city of Tikal was abandoned, it wouldn't go discovered for another thousand years, in 1848. Today, Tikal is a national park recognized by Guatemala, and is visited by many around the world.
