There is the need for colonizing a new planet? Self-replicating machines are the right tool!
But what does it mean? That the city is created automatically without any effort?
Created automatically, yes; without effort, absolutely not!
Self-replicating environments are hard even to conceptualize, but when there is the idea, here are the steps I've passed through to create the PillarHex district:
-Creation of a specific laboratory division housing all the necessary construction bays and utilities. (FIG.1)
-Creation and programming of all the machines of the basic city's infrastructure. (FIG.2)
-Off-world testing of the tessellated road expansion. (FIG.3)
-Off-world testing of a placeholder city. (FIG.4)
-Creation and progressive enrichment of the final city modules. (FIG.5)
-Sowing and controlled growth of the city over the target world! (FIG.6)
The final machine includes more than 60 template structures between building and road elements!
-Project built over 7 days (of hard work!)
-Maximum attention to the detail: every house and tower has inside stairs and furniture; I suggest you to download and explore for yourself!
If you found this project interesting please leave me a diamond, and if you have questions please ask them in the comments!

You can also create your own!!
Run it on mc 1.12 and close all other applications, there's an ON and an OFF button in the sandbox world.
I suggest you to turn the machine on for just a little (~15 seconds) and then turn it off, after that, leave the buildings to stabilize (i.e. leave everything to finish self-building); then repeat the procedure.
In this way your PC will have to deal with much less fatigue!
If everything goes well and smooth, try to turn it on for longer periods, otherwise if heavy lag happens, exit the game and enter again: this will clear the RAM and will deactivate the machine so the lag will disappear.
Using these tricks I think you should be able to build iteratively the entire district!
PS Nice Christmas-themed profile pic :-)
When I have a moment I'll open it up and see how it goes. And let you know too.
And thanks about the profile pic. 😁
This concept remains to be one of the most avant-garde I know in PMC! Well done!
