SMS Derfflinger

The SMS (Seiner Majestät Schiff) Derfflinger was a battle-cruiser constructed for the Imperial German Navy or Kaiserlische Marine in the 1910's the lead ship of her class, the Derfflinger had the sister ships Hindenburg and Lutzow as well. Equipped with 8 12in guns and nearly 12in of armour at the waterline, the ship was incredibly modern for the time it was built. So much so that it was the first ship in the Imperial Navy to be built with AA guns from the onset. Foreshadowing the design of ships to come, the ligns of the ship look a lot like capital ships designed nearly 20 years later. Participating in the most famous naval battle of the first world war, The Battle of Jutland, the Derfflinger survived some extensive damage whilst also helping to sink two Royal Navy ships, the battle-cruiser HMS Queen Mary and the battle-cruiser HMS Invincible. Unfortunately, at the end of the war the bulk of the Imperial Navy was interned at Scapa flow and was scuttled by her own crew to deny the Entente the priveledge of doing what they wanted with the navy's ships.
