The Ender War: An Assassin of Steve Prequel is an RPG adventure map that serves as the prequel to the Assassin of Steve trilogy, a series of maps released between 2014 and 2017.

This map is currently a work-in-progress, however I am releasing it mission-by-mission so you may enjoy going along in the story and adventure as I create it. Currently, the map runs up to the end of Mission 3, for a total playtime of about 3-5 hours.

Minecraft Version: 1.20.4

Current gameplay time: 3-5 hours

Players: 1-4 players (more than 4 is possible, but loot and enemies won't scale further)
If you are playing in multiplayer, everyone will need to download the resource pack separately. You may download it here.

Storyline

Eight years before the events of the Assassin of Steve trilogy, eight years before a hero was slain, there was a war. An unthinkable invasion by beings from another dimension. Endermen, which arrived in massive ships that cast shadows over the land.

From your humble beginnings as a warrior living in an underwater city, you are tasked with taking its Conduit for safekeeping from the Enderman forces. As you are relentlessly hunted across the Overworld, you soon discover others are rallying to the cause of fighting back against this immense threat.

With you joining them, can you recruit more factions across the land to aid the war effort and drive the Endermen back to where they came from?

Notable Features

Adventure
In this map you will play through a storyline made up of missions, each mission serving as a distinct chapter in the story. Fight your way through enemies, explore areas, solve puzzles, loot chests, and more!

Loot
There are many unique weapons and armor you can find throughout the map. Each mission has multiple sets of equipment spread across different rarities (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic and Legendary).

Every weapon uses a custom 3D model that gives it its own identity. Many helmets are also custom 3D models, and some other pieces of armor may be trimmed in a variety of colours and patterns.

Items of rare quality and higher have unique special abilities, some of which give passive buffs, while others can be activated to wreak havoc among foes. Some weapons have a completely custom attack. Some pieces of equipment may be very powerful but have a negative effect to keep in mind. There are many items to discover.

Heavily Customised Mobs
You will face a huge number of mobs in your adventure, of all sorts of kinds. Every mob can drop equipment from the mission it spawns in – lots of common items, some uncommon items, and occasionally rare ones.

Sometimes you will encounter a mini-boss mob, whose presence will be signified by a bossbar on the screen. Most mini-bosses have at least one special attack of some kind. If you defeat it, it has a high chance of dropping lots of good loot. Maybe even some epic-level equipment.

Large-Scale Boss Fights
While you will face off against many enemies in your adventure, each mission ends with a massive boss fight that will test your resolve. Every boss battle boasts a variety of attack patterns, sometimes multiple phases, and an insane quality that will signify its power and set it apart from everything else.

The Shop
After completing missions, you can visit the Shop! Here, you can use XP Levels to purchase weapons, armour and potions!

Settings
Choose from three difficulties – Easy, Normal and Hard – whether you want to sit back and enjoy the ride or have a challenging experience.

You can also choose to adjust loot drop frequency – Generous, Balanced and Stingy – as a further option for how you want to play.

Epic Music
From a variety of different royalty-free music providers, custom music brings a unique atmosphere to each mission’s environment and intensifies battles and boss fights.

Secrets

Secrets. We all have them. And so does this map. If you keep an eye out for them, you may be rewarded with special equipment!

And many more features – both to discover now and to come in the future!
This map is still a work in progress – only the first three missions have been fully developed and released.

What other features can you expect to come in the future? There is a glimpse of the open overworld during Mission 3, but in the future more open areas will be added to explore, filled with details and secrets! And of course, the story will continue with each new Mission added to the map.

For now, playing this map will be like a taste of what you can expect the whole map to be like. 2 Update Logs

0.3.6 Update - Shop and Starting Hub : by Cavinator1 02/10/2024 5:19:32 pmFeb 10th

General
- Updated for 1.20.4 use.
- Built the proper starting hub and overhauled how the initial map information is given and how settings are set.
- Added the shop to the end of Mission 1 and 2.
-- Items available consist of the uncommon equipment items from the mission you just played, with a 1 in 5 chance of each item being rare instead.
-- Items cost XP levels to buy. Rare items cost considerably more than uncommon items.
-- Steak and potions can also be bought.
-- The shop at the end of Mission 3 will be added with Mission 4.
- You now lose 1 XP level upon death.
- Added a hint that details the shop, the fact that you lose 1 XP level upon death, and the effects of additional players joining the world.
- Fixed health not resetting properly upon death in multiplayer (hopefully!).
- Added a number of new advancements to the Gameplay tab, as well as two new tabs – Challenges and Secrets.
-- Existing non-mission advancements now display in chat when obtained.
- Fixed a grammar mistake in the description of the “Uniquely Craftable” advancement.
- Changed the icon of the “A Legendary Power” advancement because the Totem of Sponging is no longer legendary.
- Added particles to some custom potion effects.
- Set the new projectilesCanBreakBlocks gamerule to false.
- Added another secret encounter to Chalco Plains.

Missions
- Fixed a bug where sometimes at the start of the first cutscene of Mission 2 you may be facing the wrong way.
- Fixed the Assassin shaking.
- Fixed the message that appears upon choosing a piece of Sponge Armor in Hidden Mission 1 listing the item in light_purple text when it should be blue now.
- Changed the sound effect that plays when you preview an item’s tooltip in Hidden Mission 1 to an iron xylophone instead of a cow bell (this matches the newly added shop).
- The function that starts the map from Mission 3 now starts you with 36 XP levels and a stack of Bottles o’ Enchanting.
- Fixed a 2-block deep hole at -7140 72 2271.
- Fixed a silly bug where on some kinds of servers, if the chunks of Mission 2 never unloaded, leftover mobs from those missions could get affected by the enchanted_kickback function since that mission is filled with water.

Mobs
- Made the cat that lives near Malachite Village invulnerable.
- Mobs now die if knocked into all of the pits throughout Chalco Plains (not just the pit in Python Woods).
- A Pillager Pyrotechnic now gets teleported back to where it originally spawned if it falls in enchanted water instead of to the diving board. This fixes a possible softlock involving the one that drops the Bunker Key.

Bosses
- Fixed Lord Prismbeam’s depth charges not despawning if any exist after the fight ends.
- Added a ‘blank’ ability during the Illusioner boss fight where it does nothing, to give some breathing room.
- Slightly buffed Exasperate’s max health from 700 {3500} to 800 {4000}.
- Exasperate’s vex bomb now spawns Vexes that fly out to the sides in a damage-dealing lunge. This happens in NORMAL and HARD difficulties.
- Increased the direct damage from Exasperate’s vex bomb from {25} / {32.5} / {40} to {30} / {40} / {50}.
- Increased the damage dealt by Exasperate’s thrown swords from {15} / {20} / {25} to {20} / {27.5} / {35}.

Equipment
- Fixed Splash Decay being listed as dealing 1 damage per second – it’s actually meant to be listed as 5 damage.
- Fixed the Dolphin Elixir providing the water breathing effect instead of the dolphin’s grace effect.
- Fixed the Coral Elixir’s Fire Coral effect being listed as dealing 6 damage – it’s actually meant to be listed as 30 damage.
- Fixed the Coral Elixir’s Bubble Coral effect not properly granting water breathing.
- Fixed the preview signs of the equipment in Hidden Mission 1 having the wrong percentage value for its stat-boosting attributes listed (It should have been 3.75%, not 5%. 5% was accurate before the Hidden Mission 1 armour was nerfed).
- Fixed players receiving nothing if they choose an armour piece in Hidden Mission 1 while having a full inventory.
- Fixed the Sponge Suit’s ability description saying it grants 4 Absorption Health – it actually should say 20.
- Gave pineapples its own texture.
- Cooked Rabbit now grants +20% Attack Damage for 15 seconds.
- The Killer Bunny Claws are now a Dual melee weapon.
- The Illager Helm (which grants +20% Attack Speed for 5 seconds, the same effect as Haste) now uses the same particles as the Haste custom potion effect.

Which maze?
Spoiler
If you're meaning the maze that goes inside a vanilla monument, look for the soul sand bubble column. Go up it, then find another hole in the ceiling that goes up again.
Or if you're meaning the maze with stained glass pane walls, just keep swimming around until you get out of the maze of tunnels and into the wider coral area. Then go underneath the vanilla ocean monument.
