German Soldiers in WW2 were the main fighting force of the Heer. The Wehrmacht, or Nazi Germany's armed forces, had many divisions and specializations of soldiers who fought for Hitler's Reich. In the Heer, a battalion usually was comprised of one SMG gunner, one MMG gunner, a supplier, and a couple of riflemen. However, soldiers would be wounded on the battlefield, so the sanitäter would be introduced as a field medic in the Wehrmacht. Due to the Geneva Convention, medics would need to have visible markings to deter them as a target. This was because killing a medic was a war crime. Therefore, they would paint their helmets and armbands with a red cross, and wear a vest with said cross. A sanitäter would usually carry a syringe, medical kit, gas mask canister, water bottle, and field supplies.
