Description

Texture packs have not been a thing for two and a half years. I think it's about time for a quick rename.

This is planned. The problem is just that we don't want to lazily convert the name without actually properly fulfilling the needs of the community (having proper sorts for having sounds/textures/ui/whatever instead of just assuming it's all textures).

I'd recommend a single "Resource Packs" section, and like the skin method, have a Pre 1.6 and Post 1.6 selection, but that's my oppinion

This sounds like a great idea.

Well it's packs. Maybe add one for texture packs and one to resource packs?

I agree with Speedy about the rename. But matteorizzo has a good point: how can the PMC staff put the change in effect WITHOUT affecting all links on the website?

We could still redirect texturepacks to the new page, theoretically not messing with links at all.

To be brief: the change could make sense, theoretically, but you're not taking into consideration that, practically, this change would affect all the links on the website. Which is not the best thing.

Well these so called "texturepacks" could also change the sounds and the names of items.

A texture pack is just a resource pack that only contains textures, we're not talking about the old texture pack format (terrain.png one).

But people don't really use and make texture packs anymore. We don't need another section for resource packs.

That would be completely unnecessary. I am fully aware that "texture packs" still exist as sort of a subcategory of resource packs that only change textures, but they're still resource packs. Texture packs would just be a category of resource packs, just as plugins are a category of mods.

Yes, I absolutely agree with you at this point. But I also disagree... Texture packs and resource packs are different. A texture pack was used since the start of Minecraft, prior to 1.6.1. Texture packs only change the looks and the in-game textures of the game.
While resource packs change the looks, in-game textures, AND allowed alternate sounds, music, particle effects, in addition to modifying blocks, items, and entity textures.
We should add leave the texture packs page, and ADD a resource packs page.
